Taming

Category: Survivalism · Command: /taming · Super ability: None

Taming turns your wolves into a real fighting force, and lets you summon animal companions when you need them.

Earning XP

Taming has two sources of XP.

1. Taming animals. Each animal you tame pays once:

Animal XP Animal XP
Bee 100 Wolf, Goat 250
Cat, Ocelot 500 Axolotl 600
Frog, Snifflet 900 Horse, Donkey, Mule 1,000
Skeleton / Zombie Horse 1,000 Fox, Panda 1,000
Parrot 1,100 Llama 1,200
Camel 1,300 Sniffer 1,500
Nautilus 1,700

2. Your wolves fighting. When your tamed wolves damage a mob, you earn Taming XP: the health the mob lost × its multiplier × 10, times 3. That's three times what you'd earn hitting it yourself (see Combat XP). Wolves summoned with Call of the Wild don't earn XP.

Abilities

Wolves use all of their owner's Taming abilities, whatever weapon the owner uses.

Ability Unlocks What it does
Beast Lore Level 1 Hold a bone and left-click an animal to see its owner, health and other stats
Call of the Wild Level 1 Sneak and left-click while holding 10 bones to summon a wolf, 10 raw cod for a cat, or 10 apples for a horse. Summons last 4 minutes. You can have 2 wolves, 1 cat and 1 horse summoned at a time.
Environmentally Aware Level 10 Your wolves take no fall damage and teleport to you when they touch fire or lava
Gore Level 15 Chance for a wolf's bite to deal double damage. The chance rises to 100% at level 100.
Pummel Level 20 10% chance for a wolf's bite to knock the target back
Fast Food Service Level 20 50% chance for your wolves to heal by the damage they deal
Thick Fur Level 25 Your wolves take half damage from attacks and are immune to fire
Holy Hound Level 35 Magic, poison and wither damage heals your wolves instead of hurting them
Shock Proof Level 50 Your wolves take 1/6 damage from explosions and lightning
Sharpened Claws Level 75 Your wolves deal +2 damage

Tips

  • A pack of wolves at your side earns you Taming XP in every fight, on top of the XP your own weapon earns.
  • By level 50 your wolves are very hard to kill: Thick Fur, Holy Hound and Shock Proof stack up.
  • Taming is in Survivalism with Acrobatics, Fishing and Unarmed. See Leather Mastery for Survivalism's passive.
