Smelting

Smelting gets more out of your furnaces: extra output, longer-burning fuel and more experience orbs. In mcMMO, Smelting was a "child" skill whose level came from other skills. In mcRPG it's a full skill that earns its own XP.

Earning XP

You earn XP each time a furnace or blast furnace you own finishes smelting an ore item. You own a furnace if you were the last player to open it or put items in it. You don't have to stand next to it, but you do need to be online.

Only items that come from ores give XP. Each is worth about half the Mining XP of the ore it came from:

• XP is based on the item that goes into the furnace. Extra items from Second Smelt don't give extra XP.
• Hoppers and automatic smelters are fine. Ore only comes from mining, so automation doesn't create extra XP.
• Raw copper pays less per item because one copper ore drops several.

Why half? With Fortune III, an iron ore drops about 2.2 raw iron. Smelting that is worth about 990 XP, close to the 900 Mining XP for mining the ore. So if you mine and smelt your own ore, both skills level at a similar pace.

Tips

• Trade with miners. Smelting only needs ore, not mining. Buy raw ore from Mining players and smelt it for them.
• You only earn Smelting XP while you're online, so run your furnaces while you play rather than leaving them to finish after you log off.
