Fishing makes fish bite faster and turns some of your catches into treasure, including enchanted gear.
Catch fish. The kind of fish makes a big difference:
| Catch | XP |
|---|---|
| Cod | 100 |
| Salmon | 600 |
| Pufferfish | 2,400 |
| Tropical Fish | 10,000 |
| Treasure (Treasure Hunter) | Bonus XP on top |
| Shaking an item off a mob | 50 |
Move around. If you keep fishing the same spot without moving more than a few blocks, it becomes overfished and stops paying. Fishing while AFK doesn't count either.
| Ability | Unlocks | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Treasure Hunter | Level 1 (tiers at 1, 25, 35, 50, 65, 75, 85, 100) | Some catches become treasure instead of fish. Treasure comes in six rarities, from Common to Mythic, and higher tiers find rarer treasure more often. Luck of the Sea helps too. |
| Master Angler | Level 1 (ranks at 1, 20, 30, 40, 60, 70, 80, 90) | Fish bite sooner. Each rank cuts 0.5 seconds from the shortest wait and 1.5 seconds from the longest. Fishing from a boat takes off another 0.5 and 1.5 seconds. |
| Ice Fishing | Level 5 | Fish through ice in cold biomes |
| Shake | Level 15 (ranks at 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70) | Hook a mob and reel it in for a chance to shake an item off it: 15% at rank 1, up to 75% at rank 8. It also deals a quarter of the mob's max health in damage (at least 1, at most 10). |
| Magic Hunter | Level 20 | Treasure gear (armor, tools, weapons) can come up enchanted. Rarer treasure gets stronger enchantments. |
| Fisherman's Diet | Level 20 (ranks at 20, 40, 60, 80, 100) | Fish you eat restore more hunger |
| Vanilla XP Boost | With Treasure Hunter | Multiplies the vanilla experience orbs from fishing, up to 5× at the top tier |
Treasure chance by tier:
| Tier | Level | Common | Uncommon | Rare | Epic | Legendary | Mythic |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 | 7.5% | 1.25% | 0.25% | 0.1% | 0.01% | 0.01% |
| 8 | 100 | 0.1% | 1.5% | 6.0% | 7.5% | 5.0% | 0.25% |
- Tropical fish and pufferfish are where most Fishing XP comes from. A Lure rod gets you more bites per hour.
- Enchanted treasure gear is worth a lot of Salvage XP, so Fishing and Salvage make a good pair.
- Fishing is in Survivalism with Taming, Acrobatics and Unarmed. See Leather Mastery for Survivalism's passive.
