Discord Integration
Flashback works with Discord in five ways: an optional status on your Discord profile, Discord-sized clip copies, link previews for clips you share from Flashback Cloud, keeping Discord voices out of your clips, and signing in to Flashback Cloud with your Discord account. This page covers each one and exactly what Discord can see.
| Feature | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Discord status | Shows your replay buffer state as your Discord activity, with a Get Flashback button | On |
| Discord copy | Makes a copy of a clip that fits Discord's upload limit | When you ask |
| Link previews | Cloud share links show a poster and play in Discord | Depends on the clip's visibility |
| Leave Discord out | Removes Discord audio from saved clips | Off (one choice in Settings > Audio) |
| Discord sign-in | Signs you in to Flashback Cloud with Discord | When you sign in |
When Flashback and the Discord desktop app are both running, your Discord profile can show that you're using Flashback and what the replay buffer is doing. People who can see your Discord activity see it, as with any other app's status.
| Buffer state | Status text |
|---|---|
| Recording | Instant replay ready |
| Saving | Saving a local clip |
| Starting | Preparing instant replay |
| Stopping | Pausing instant replay |
| Problem | Replay needs attention |
| Paused | Instant replay paused |
Under that is the line "Fast local clips • no mandatory account" and, while the buffer is running, how long it has been running. Two buttons sit underneath: Get Flashback, which opens flashbk.gg, and Why Flashback, which opens the Why Flashback page. Discord shows the buttons to people who look at your profile, not to you, so a friend who sees your status is one click from the download.
Your game, window titles, clip names, files and recordings are never shared. The status shows only Flashback's own replay buffer state and the two links to flashbk.gg, so it doesn't reveal what you're playing.
Flashback talks to the Discord desktop app on your PC through Discord's local connection, and Discord shows the status on your profile. Flashback doesn't sign in to Discord, doesn't need your Discord account, and doesn't send anything to a Flashback server for this. If Discord isn't open, nothing happens; when Discord starts, Flashback connects quietly in the background.
- Settings > Privacy & integrations: turn off Show Flashback on my Discord profile.
- Ghost Mode turns it off for as long as Ghost Mode is on, without changing the setting. See Ghost Mode.
- Quitting Flashback clears the status immediately.
Discord's own activity privacy settings still apply on top of this.
Discord limits how big an upload can be. Flashback can make a separate copy of any clip that fits:
| Target | Limit |
|---|---|
| Discord Free (default) | 20 MB |
| Nitro Basic | 50 MB, which also fits servers at Boost Level 2 |
| Boost Level 3 server | 100 MB |
| Discord Nitro | 1 GB |
Choose Compress for Discord from a clip's ... menu in the Library, or use the DISCORD COPY section of the Editor to trim first and pick a format. The copy is named like <clip name> - Discord 20 MB.mp4 and saved next to the original, which isn't changed. Copies aim about 2% under the limit, for example 19.6 MB for Discord Free. If the clip already fits with that margin, Flashback copies it at original quality instead of re-encoding; a clip just under the limit is re-encoded so it lands inside the margin. Full details on Editor and Montage.
Then drag the copy into Discord as usual.
If you use Flashback Cloud, you can post a link instead of a file. What Discord shows depends on the clip's visibility:
| Visibility | In Discord |
|---|---|
| Anyone with the link | A preview with a poster image, video details and a browser-playable MP4 |
| Public on my profile (adults, where offered) | The same rich preview |
| Friends | No preview, so the title and picture stay out of the chat. Only your Flashback friends can open it. |
| Only me | No share link to post |
Screenshot links preview the image itself. Discord decides whether a video plays inline, so some links may show the poster with a link to play instead.
If you need to stop a link working, use Get a new link. Previews Discord already made can't be recalled by Flashback. See Sharing and Visibility.
Recording with friends in a voice channel? Choose Discord under Audio to leave out in Settings > Audio. It works with the editable audio tracks that are on by default, with or without your microphone. Your game sound and your own microphone stay; Discord's audio is removed from the clip. See Audio.
Flashback Cloud uses Discord sign-in (and Google where offered). Sign-in happens in your browser, not inside Flashback, and Flashback never sees your Discord password. Signing in is only needed for Cloud. Recording, screenshots, editing and the Library never need an account. See Flashback Cloud.
Talk with other Flashback players, share clips and swap settings on the Flashback Discord server: https://discord.gg/eutwRqvfrw. Join the Flashback Discord in Settings > App updates opens the same invite. More on what the server is for on Community and Discord.
