Shortcuts

Flashback has two global shortcuts that work anywhere, even in fullscreen games, plus keyboard controls inside the app. This page lists them all and explains how to change the global ones safely.

Global shortcuts

Action Default Notes
Save replay Ctrl+Shift+F10 Saves the replay buffer as a clip. A quick double press saves a longer clip if smart replay length is on.
Screenshot Ctrl+Shift+F11 Saves a PNG. Works even while the replay buffer is paused.

Both work while a game has focus, in windowed, borderless or fullscreen mode, and while Flashback is hidden in the tray or in Ghost Mode.

Flashback registers these with Windows' standard hotkey system (RegisterHotKey). It doesn't install a keyboard hook and doesn't read or inject anything into your game. See Anti-Cheat and Games.

Change a shortcut

  1. Open Settings > Storage & shortcuts. Each shortcut field shows its keys as keycaps, such as Ctrl + Shift + F10.
  2. Click the Replay shortcut or Screenshot field (or focus it and press Enter). It starts listening and shows the modifier keys you hold as you press them.
  3. Press the key or key combination you want. The field tells you if it needs Apply to take effect.
  4. Apply your settings.

Esc cancels without changing anything. The reset button beside each field puts the default back.

While a field is listening, Flashback releases its own two shortcuts, so you can swap the replay and screenshot keys or set the screenshot keys in the replay field. If you click away to another window, such as a game, the field stops listening and your shortcuts work again straight away. Print Screen combinations can be set too; Windows reports that key when you let go of it.

What you can use

Allowed on its own Needs Ctrl, Alt or Win
F1 to F24 Letters and numbers
Numpad keys (0 to 9, +, -, *, /, .) Punctuation keys
Pause, Scroll Lock, Insert Space, Enter and other typing keys

Shift alone doesn't count, because Shift plus a letter is just typing. So F9 on its own is fine, Ctrl+Alt+S is fine, and Shift+S is refused. Any key that can stand alone also works with any modifiers, including Shift, such as Shift+F9.

Conflicts are caught before they bite

Flashback checks the new shortcut with Windows before saving it. If Windows has reserved it, another app already uses it, or it's the other field's shortcut, Flashback explains the problem right in the field and keeps your working shortcut, so you're never left with a shortcut that silently does nothing.

If a shortcut can't be registered when Flashback starts (for example another app grabbed it in the meantime), Flashback shows a Flashback shortcut unavailable notice. Pick a different shortcut, or close the app that's using it.

Good choices

  • A spare F-key or numpad key is quick to hit and rarely clashes with games.
  • A mouse side button works if your mouse software can map it to a key Flashback accepts, such as F13 to F24, which games rarely use.
  • Avoid shortcuts your game, Discord or another overlay app already use. Flashback catches conflicts it can see, but a game that reads the same keys directly will still react to them.

Voice instead of keys

With voice commands on, "Flashback, clip" and "Flashback, screenshot" do the same as the two global shortcuts, and "Flashback, upload" saves a clip and sends it to Flashback Cloud.
