Flashback Cloud
Flashback Cloud is the optional, paid add-on that hosts the clips and screenshots you choose, so you can watch them anywhere, keep them to yourself, share them with friends, or send a link that previews in Discord. Everything else in Flashback stays free and works without an account.
What's open now: Flashback Cloud is open. You can make an account, subscribe, upload, choose Only me or Anyone with the link for each clip, and sign in at flashbk.gg/account. Profiles and friends (the Feed, Friends, the Friends and Public on my profile visibilities, reactions and collections) open later from the Cloud server, with no app update needed. The Cloud tab in Flashback 0.8.0 always shows what's open. The plans, prices and policies on flashbk.gg are the live, authoritative versions of what this page summarizes.
| Free, no account needed | With Flashback Cloud |
|---|---|
| Instant replay, screenshots, the Library | Hosted copies of the clips and screenshots you choose |
| Trimming, Discord-sized copies, montages | Per-clip visibility: Only me, Friends, Anyone with the link, or Public on my profile |
| Game folders, per-game profiles, voice commands | Share links at flashbk.gg/c/... that preview in Discord |
| Everything stays on your PC | Watching on a phone or any browser at flashbk.gg/account
|
| Automatic uploads for games you pick, and the "Flashback upload" voice command |
There is no free Cloud storage. Profiles, friends, the feed and reactions need a Cloud account but no plan; uploading needs a plan. See Cloud Plans and Billing.
Every profile also has a short address, flashbk.gg/<username>, that leads to its full page at flashbk.gg/u/<username>.
"Where offered." A few options, such as Google sign-in, Public on my profile, profiles visible to everyone, custom profile pictures and sharing screenshots with friends, switch on in stages after launch. Until one is available to you, the app and website simply don't offer it. Profiles and friends are available in the United States for now.
Flashback 0.8.0 has a redesigned Cloud tab. It stays asleep until you open it: "Cloud is off until you open this page." Opening it only checks whether Cloud is open; nothing is uploaded.
Whether Cloud is open. A label at the top says what Cloud offers right now, for example Private preview (new accounts and uploads aren't open yet), Accounts available (uploads paused for now) or Cloud sharing available. If Flashback can't reach Cloud, it says Cloud couldn't be checked and offers Retry. Whatever the label says, recording, screenshots, editing, overlays and the Library keep working without an account.
Signed out, the tab explains Cloud and offers Sign in, which opens your browser. You must be 13 or older, and signing in asks you to accept the Terms and Privacy Policy. Nothing uploads automatically.
Signed in, one page that scrolls from anywhere opens on a section switcher, plus a status strip with your storage, clips, uploads and plan. Each usage figure has an (i) that explains how Cloud counts it. My clips and Account are always there; Feed and Friends join them once profiles and friends are open for you.
| Section | Shortcut | What's there |
|---|---|---|
| Feed | Ctrl+1 | What your friends shared with friends or publicly in the last 30 days. Before you have a profile, a short card walks you through picking a @username, adding a friend and sharing a first clip. |
| My clips | Ctrl+2 | Every Cloud clip and screenshot you own, with its Cloud poster. Click a poster to play the clip in Flashback. Search by name, game or tag (#tag, game:valorant), filter by game, visibility, type and upload date, sort, and see removable filter chips with a result count. Show rows or a grid, or Group by game to change every clip of one game at once. Select several clips to change their visibility or delete them together; Ctrl+A, Delete, F2, Enter, Esc and Shift-click work as you'd expect. Search friends' clips searches what friends shared. |
| Friends | Ctrl+3 | Add a friend by @username, answer requests, see requests you sent, your friends, and the people you blocked. |
| Account | Ctrl+4 | Plan and usage: your plan, Manage billing, the plan cards (subscribers switch plans from them; see Cloud Plans and Billing), and Storage, Cloud clips, Daily upload and Max file size. Uploads: the upload queue, then Automatic and voice uploads, whose changes save as you make them and never restart capture. Your data: Export my data and the legal pages. Danger zone: Sign out and Delete Cloud account… Billing, plans and Export stay available while an upload runs. |
In My clips:
- Play from the poster. Point at a clip's poster and a play badge appears. Click it, double-click the clip or press Enter to play it in Flashback's own player; a screenshot opens there too. If that clip's player is already open, it comes to the front instead of opening twice.
- Posters come from Cloud. Each clip shows the poster Cloud made from the upload. While it loads, or if there isn't one, the clip's thumbnail from your Library shows instead, as long as the original is still on this PC.
- Games from your Library. A clip uploaded without a game takes the game of its copy in your Library, so it shows and filters under that game instead of Other.
- The visibility chip on each clip shows who can see it. Click it to open Who can see this? While visibility choices aren't open yet, the chip is faded and says "Visibility choices open soon." A clip that's still uploading or under review explains why its visibility can't change yet.
Your profile card has Edit profile, View on web, and a ... menu with Change picture, Collections and Copy profile link. See Profiles and Friends.
Uploading makes a separate hosted copy. The clip or screenshot on your PC is never replaced, re-encoded or moved, and nothing that happens in Cloud (a cancelled plan, a deleted account, an expired link) touches your local files.
There are exactly three ways a clip leaves your PC through Flashback:
- You pick a clip or screenshot and choose Upload to Cloud.
- You say "Flashback upload" while the voice upload command is turned on.
- You turn on Upload new clips automatically and tick the games whose new clips should upload.
The voice command and automatic uploads are off until you turn them on. New uploads from Flashback 0.8 start as Only me, so even an automatic upload stays private until you decide otherwise. Details are on Automatic and Voice Uploads.

|
| 1. Prepare: only if needed, make a browser-ready H.264/AAC MP4 copy
| (low priority; never while a game is in front for automatic uploads)
v
Temporary share copy on your PC
|
| 2. Upload directly to storage with a short-lived permission
| (resumes after a dropped connection; checked part by part)
v
Flashback Cloud
|
| 3. Verified, then published with the visibility you chose
v
Your Cloud clip -> Only me / Friends / link / profile
- Prepared only when needed. If a clip is already browser-ready, it uploads as is. Otherwise Flashback makes an H.264/AAC MP4 copy in one low-priority job that never holds a whole clip in memory.
- 60 FPS hosted copies. Hosted video is capped at 60 FPS so it plays smoothly in browsers. Your high-frame-rate original stays exactly as recorded.
- Direct to storage. Video goes straight from your PC to storage through short-lived upload permissions. It is never relayed through the API server.
- Resumable and verified. Larger files go up in parts, and every part is checked. An interrupted upload resumes where it stopped, and the finished file is verified before it is published.
-
Temporary copy cleaned up. The share copy lives under
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Flashback\Cloud\Cacheand is deleted after the upload, or after a short expiry if the upload never finishes. - Screenshots upload as PNG or JPEG. Flashback first strips text notes, EXIF and XMP data (camera and location details) and timestamps from the uploaded copy. The image itself isn't re-encoded.
Cloud is built so you never pay for it in game performance:
- Cloud code stays asleep until you open the Cloud tab or upload. There is no background polling.
- From 0.8 a small upload queue starts with the app. With nothing queued, it makes no network requests.
- Automatic and voice uploads wait until you stop playing by default. While a game is in front, they are throttled to a rate you choose (4 Mbit/s by default), and a clip that needs converting is never prepared during play.
