Sharing and Visibility
Every clip and screenshot you upload to Flashback Cloud has exactly one visibility, which decides who can open it. This page explains the four choices, how links work, what Discord shows, and how to take something back.
Available now: Only me and Anyone with the link, for any clip, at any time, in the app or at flashbk.gg/account. Friends and Public on my profile appear once profiles and friends open.
| Visibility | Who can open it | Listed on your profile and friends' feeds | Discord preview |
|---|---|---|---|
| Only me (default) | Only you, signed in | No | No |
| Friends | You and the people you've accepted as friends, signed in | Yes, to friends | No (the link shows no title or picture) |
| Anyone with the link | Anyone who has the flashbk.gg/c/... link, signed in or not |
No (link-only) | Yes |
| Public on my profile (adults, where offered) | Anyone with the link, plus anyone who can see your profile | Yes, to everyone who can see your profile | Yes |
A few rules sit behind that table:
- New uploads start as Only me. That includes automatic and voice uploads. Set a different starting point in the Cloud tab: "The visibility new uploads start with. The upload dialog can change it for each upload."
- Friends and Public on my profile need a profile (a @username). See Profiles and Friends.
- Public on my profile is only for adults, and only where offered. It also needs a profile that everyone signed in can see (the app says "Let everyone signed in see your profile first" if yours is friends-only). Accounts of people aged 13 to 17 can't post clips publicly.
- Treat a link as shareable, not secret. Anyone you give an "Anyone with the link" link to can pass it on.
- Clips uploaded before 0.8, or from app versions without these choices, are Anyone with the link.
- Sharing screenshots with Friends or publicly arrives where offered. Until then, a screenshot can be Only me or Anyone with the link, and the app tells you why other choices are greyed out.
Only me and Friends aren't just labels. Their media is kept off the public media host and is served only through links that expire and are checked for each viewer. When you change a clip from a link or public visibility to Only me or Friends, Flashback moves its media off the public host, so the old direct media address stops working too. Narrowed clips move first; after a large batch change the last moves can take a few minutes, and the clip's page says the old media address keeps working until its move finishes.
- In the Cloud tab or Library, pick a clip or screenshot and choose Upload to Cloud.
- Give it a name. People see this name on the clip's page and in link previews.
- Choose who can see it. The four choices start on your default; any that aren't available to you yet are disabled with the reason, such as "Choose a @username first."
- Optionally keep or remove the tags filled in from your PC. Tags you remove stay local.
- Choose Prepare and upload.
When an upload finishes as Only me, the app says so: "Uploaded. Only you can see it. Use Create link to share it."
-
One clip: in the Cloud tab's My clips, click the clip's visibility chip or choose Visibility… from its ... menu, or open the clip's page under
flashbk.gg/account/clipson the web. - Many clips at once: select several clips in the app, or use a game's group header (turn on Group by game) to change every clip of that game. On the web, the My clips page does the same, up to 50 clips per change.
A change takes effect for pages and links straight away. Narrowing a clip (for example from Anyone with the link to Friends) stops its share link working for anyone who may no longer see it.
Changing who can see clips, and making new links, have generous daily limits per account, counted per clip, so one account can't flood the service. Renaming a clip never counts. If you reach a limit, Flashback says "Try again tomorrow" and nothing is changed. See Reporting and Safety.
A private clip has no link to copy, so Copy link becomes Create link. It "changes this clip to Anyone with the link and copies the new link" in one step.
Get a new link gives the clip a brand-new flashbk.gg/c/... address. Every copy of the current link stops working for good, even if you share the clip again later.
When you narrow a clip's visibility, the same option appears as Also turn off the old link, checked by default.
Flashback can stop its own links and media working, but it can't reach into other services. Copies others already made, such as a chat app's cached preview of the video, or a file someone downloaded, can't be recalled. If something must never be seen, keep it Only me.
| Shared as | What the link shows in Discord |
|---|---|
| Anyone with the link, or Public on my profile (clip) | A poster image, video details and a browser-playable MP4 |
| Anyone with the link (screenshot) | The image itself |
| Friends | No preview, so the title and picture stay out of the chat |
| Only me | Nothing; the link doesn't open for others |
Discord decides how it displays a link. When it doesn't play the video inline, the poster and a link to the clip's page still appear.
Not by default. A clip shared as Anyone with the link never shows your name, picture or profile, unless you turn on Show my profile on clips I share by link in your profile settings. That setting is off by default and covers "only clips you upload after turning this on. Older clips stay anonymous." Clips uploaded before 0.8 never show who uploaded them.
Friends and Public clips show your profile to the people who are allowed to see it.
- Every share link contains a long random identifier (at least 128 bits of randomness). Links aren't listed anywhere and can't be guessed.
- Clip pages ask search engines not to index them. Search engines usually honor that, but no site can guarantee it.
- Clip titles and game names drop invisible characters that change text direction, so a title or link preview can't read differently from what was saved.
- Uploaded videos are served from a separate domain from the website and account pages.
- A link to a clip that is Only me, or Friends when you aren't a signed-in friend, simply doesn't open.
From the Cloud tab or on the web you can copy a clip's link, rename it, change its tags, take it offline, or delete it. On the web you can also pin it to your profile or add it to a collection.
Deleting a Cloud clip removes only the hosted copy. The original on your PC is never touched.
Flashback 0.7.40 and 0.7.41 don't know the new choices. They show a Friends or Only me clip as "Private" with no link, and a Public clip as "Anyone with the link". Uploads from those versions are Anyone with the link.
Who sees my clip if I do nothing? Only you. New uploads from 0.8 start as Only me.
I sent a link and now want to take it back. Choose Get a new link, or narrow the visibility with Also turn off the old link ticked. The old link stops working for good.
Why does my friend's link show no preview in Discord? Friends clips deliberately show no preview, so their details stay out of chats. Your friend has to open the link while signed in.
Can moderators change my clip's visibility? A clip restricted by moderation stays visible to you, but you can't change its visibility or delete it while the restriction lasts. You're told why and how to appeal. See Reporting and Safety.
