Companion Client

Developer preview: Client Connections are shown only in Voice2Win developer mode. The current companion implementation is a Windows client.

The companion client lets another computer on the same local network provide its microphone and keyboard shortcuts to a Voice2Win desktop host. It is different from the phone browser remote: it is a standalone desktop application intended for a second computer.

There is no cloud relay. Both computers must be on the same local network.

Configure the Voice2Win host

1. Enable developer mode so Settings → Client Connections is visible.
2. Enable Allow client connections.
3. Choose the network adapter that reaches the client computer.
4. Choose the listening port.
5. Copy the generated token-protected Connection URL.

The host runs this service on a dedicated port separate from the phone remote-control server. Connected clients appear in the status list with their available capabilities.

Configure the client computer

1. Start Voice2Win Client.
2. Paste the v2wclient://... Connection URL from the host.
3. Enable at least Transfer microphone or Send keyboard shortcuts to host computer.
4. For microphone transfer, select the local microphone and confirm activity on the microphone level meter.
5. Select Connect.

When connected, the client can wait for the host to select its microphone. On the host, choose the entry named after the remote computer and microphone in the Recording Device list.

Client settings

• Connect automatically reconnects with the saved address at startup.
• Start minimized keeps the client out of the way after launch.
• Transfer microphone streams the selected microphone to the host.
• Send keyboard shortcuts to host computer enables local shortcut forwarding.
• Refresh devices reloads the local microphone list.

The last address, microphone, startup options, capabilities, shortcuts, advertised host actions, and window position are stored locally on the client.

Forward local keyboard shortcuts

The host advertises available actions after connection. They can include Speech to Text, Voice Command, and enabled custom AI prompts.

1. Enable shortcut forwarding.
2. Select a host action.
3. Choose Record keyboard shortcut and press the desired local combination.
4. Repeat for additional actions. Remove an entry with its delete button.

The client's shortcut does not have to match the shortcut configured on the host. Pressing it triggers the selected host action in the recording mode configured on the host.

Security and limitations

• The pairing address contains an access token; share it only with the intended client computer.
• Audio and actions are sent over the local network. Use a trusted network.
• The host streams audio only from the client currently selected as Recording Device.
• If the host address changes, generate or copy a current connection address and reconnect.
• Only Windows-specific microphone capture and device enumeration are currently implemented for the companion client.
