Sumiroku Privacy Policy

Sumiroku is an iPhone app developed and provided by Hajime Nakamura as an individual. This page explains what the app does and does not collect.
The app has no account registration. It never asks for your name, email address, or phone number, and there is no login.
The app uses the microphone only while you are recording. Recording starts only when you tap the record button, and you can turn microphone access off anytime in iOS Settings. Recording in the background continues only while a recording is in progress.
Your audio recordings (m4a files), transcripts, summaries (key points, decisions, to-dos, open questions), bookmarks, speaker labels you add, and your settings are stored only on your device.
- They are never sent to the developer's servers (the app has no such server)
- The app works in Airplane Mode — recording, transcription, and summaries all run on your device
- Deleting the app deletes the on-device data
The app does not use analytics or crash-reporting services, and does not send your data to any third party.
Transcription uses Apple's on-device speech recognition built into iOS. Your audio is processed on your iPhone and is never sent anywhere. The first time you use a language, iOS may download that language's speech recognition assets from Apple. This is a download managed by iOS itself; no audio or text is sent as part of it.
Summaries use Apple's on-device Foundation Models (Apple Intelligence), available only on supported devices with Apple Intelligence turned on. Your transcript is processed on your iPhone. The app does not use any cloud AI service, and this version does not use Apple's Private Cloud Compute.
While recording, the elapsed time is shown on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. This display is generated on your device; nothing is sent to a server.
With Sumiroku Pro you can import an audio file to transcribe and summarize it. The app reads only the file you pick in the iOS file picker, and copies it into the app on your device. It does not access any other files.
The app never sends your notes anywhere on its own. Text, Markdown, or PDF exports are handed to the iOS share sheet only when you choose to share them, and go only to the destination you pick. Once shared, that content is handled by the app or service you chose.
The app does not sync your data to the developer's or any third party's cloud. If you have iOS's own "iCloud Backup" turned on, Apple's system may include this app's data in your device backup. This is an Apple feature governed by Apple's Privacy Policy (the developer cannot see the contents). If you prefer, you can turn on the setting in the app that excludes recordings from iCloud Backup.

Some features are available through "Sumiroku Pro", a one-time purchase via Apple's App Store (not a subscription). Payment is processed by Apple; the developer never receives payment details such as credit card numbers. Whether you have purchased is determined from the App Store entitlement on your device — no developer server is involved.
The app does not request ATT permission. It does not obtain the advertising identifier (IDFA), does not track you, and shows no ads.
You are responsible for obtaining the consent of the people you record, and for following the laws of your region and the rules of your workplace or organization. Please let others know before you start recording.
- Delete one at a time: swipe on a recording in the list, or delete it from the recording's screen (its audio, transcript, and summary are deleted together)
- Delete everything: deleting the app deletes all data on your device
- Exported files: delete them in the app or place you shared them to
The app is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13.
