Sumiroku (Offline Meeting Notes)

Record a meeting, and get a transcript plus key points, decisions, and to-dos — all on your iPhone.

Tap the big record button and your words appear as you speak. Press and hold the button to stop, and the summary appears section by section. The time at the end of each item links back to what was actually said. Everything works in Airplane Mode, and not a single word of your conversation leaves your device.

You are responsible for obtaining the consent of the people you record, and for following the laws of your region and the rules of your workplace. Transcripts and summaries are generated automatically and may contain mistakes. Please check important details against the recording.

FAQ

Does it really work offline?

Yes. Recording, transcription, and summaries all run on your iPhone, so everything works in Airplane Mode. The only exception: the first time you use a language, iOS may download that language's speech recognition data from Apple. This is an iOS download, and no audio is sent.

Which devices can create summaries?

Summaries use Apple Intelligence, so they work on devices that support Apple Intelligence, with Apple Intelligence turned on. On other devices you can still record, transcribe, add bookmarks, and export — enough to use as a draft of your minutes.

Which languages are supported?

Transcription supports Japanese and English.

How can I improve transcription accuracy?

Place your iPhone close to the people speaking, ideally in the middle of the table, and away from noise such as air conditioners or keyboards. You can also correct mistakes by editing the transcript directly.

Can it tell who is speaking?

Automatic speaker separation is not available. Instead, long-press the start of a paragraph to label it (for example, "A" or "B").

How long can I record?

The free version records up to 30 minutes per recording. With Sumiroku Pro, there is no limit. Long meetings are summarized one block at a time, with progress shown on screen.

The app closed in the middle of a recording

Recordings are saved every 10 minutes, so even if the app closes unexpectedly, everything up to the last save is kept. Recording also resumes automatically after interruptions such as phone calls.

Some to-dos have no owner or due date

An owner or due date is shown only when it was actually said in the meeting. If it wasn't said, the field is left blank — Sumiroku never makes one up. Tap the time at the end of any item to jump to that part of the transcript and play the audio from there.

What's the difference between Free and Pro (Sumiroku Pro)?

  • Free: recording up to 30 minutes per recording, transcription, summaries, bookmarks, and text export
  • Sumiroku Pro (one-time purchase): unlimited recording length, live summaries while recording, PDF and Markdown export, a choice of writing styles for summaries, and importing audio files (buy once, keep forever)

I want to restore Pro / I switched phones

From Settings, use "Restore Purchases" to restore purchases made with the same Apple Account.

Where is my data stored?

Your recordings, transcripts, and summaries are stored on your device (there is no cloud sync). If iOS "iCloud Backup" is enabled, Apple's system includes this app's data in your device backup, so it can be restored on a new phone. If you'd rather keep recordings out of backups, turn on the setting in the app to exclude them from iCloud Backup.

How do I delete a recording?

Swipe on a recording in the list, or delete it from the recording's screen. Its audio, transcript, and summary are deleted together. Deleting the app deletes all on-device data.
