The Infinity Stones

The six Infinity Stones of the films (3.6) are real items now: the Space, Mind, Reality, Power, Time and Soul Stones. Each one waits somewhere in the worlds, each has two powers, and only the right hands can hold them. Set them into a crafted Infinity Gauntlet to carry them together, turn the Stone Wheel to choose one, and with all six, Snap.

The Infinity Stones

The quick version

  • Where: Reality in Asgard's vault; Mind inside Loki's Scepter (from a Hydra outpost); Space inside the Tesseract (Avengers Tower); Time in the Sanctum Sanctorum; Power in the Orb, in an End tunnel; Soul at the Vormir Cliff in the Nether, for a sacrifice (Vormir): anyone can earn it there (3.6.1); one who may not hold it bare finds it on a pedestal by the pool, held for him.
  • Who: only the gods (Thor, Loki, Heimdall, Odin, Hela), the Scarlet Witch and the Phoenix may hold a bare stone. A sorcerer may hold the Time Stone, and Vision the Mind Stone. Anyone else can't pick a stone up, and one in his bag burns him after 10 seconds.
  • Vessels: Loki's Scepter (Mind), the Tesseract (Space) and the Eye of Agamotto (Time) give their stone's power to others. The Reality, Power and Soul Stones have no vessel: someone who is not a god can't use them at all.
  • Use = right-click the stone; Sneak + right-click = its second power. Hold for the beams and the drain.
  • The Gauntlet: craft it, click stones into it, J picks the next stone, holding J opens the Stone Wheel. With all six: Sneak and hold right-click for 3 seconds to Snap.

The six stones

Stone Colour Where it is Use (right-click) Sneak + use
Reality Stone red On a pedestal in Asgard's vault, under the throne room (after Hela's first defeat) Transmute: the creature you look at turns to stone. While you hold it, shots at you turn into bubbles Illusion: you vanish and a red copy of you walks away
Mind Stone yellow Inside Loki's Scepter: craft the Scepter alone Hold: the Mind Beam (Vision's beam), which confuses Mind Command: the creature you look at fights for you
Time Stone green On a pedestal at the top of a Sanctum Sanctorum Slow Time round you (on/off) Rewind: back to where you were 5 seconds ago
Power Stone purple Inside the Orb, in the vault chest of an End tunnel Hold: the Purple Beam, with explosions where it hits The Power Bolt (Thanos's blast)
Space Stone blue Inside the Tesseract, on the roof of Avengers Tower: craft the Tesseract alone Portal Step: step through a portal to where you look The Realm Picker: the Overworld, the Nether, the End or Asgard
Soul Stone orange The Vormir Cliff in the Nether, given for a sacrifice (Vormir) Hold: the Soul Drain (Thanos's) Soul Sight: every soul near you glows through walls

The four places, and how to find them with /locate, are on Structures.

Who may hold a stone

The stones are too strong for most hands. The Bearers may hold every bare stone: the gods Thor, Loki, Heimdall, Odin and Hela, the Scarlet Witch and the Phoenix (and a custom hero with one of their "god's" abilities). Two more may hold one stone each:

  • A sorcerer may hold the Time Stone: Billy, Agatha, Doctor Strange and a custom sorcerer.
  • Vision may hold the Mind Stone: it is his own.

The Time Stone answers only a sorcerer. Thor, Heimdall, Odin, Hela and the Phoenix may hold it, but it stays quiet in their hand: "You are no sorcerer: the Time Stone will not answer you."

Who May hold May use
Loki, the Scarlet Witch all six all six
Thor, Heimdall, Odin, Hela, the Phoenix all six all but the Time Stone
Billy, Agatha, Doctor Strange the Time Stone the Time Stone
Vision the Mind Stone the Mind Stone
Everyone else (Magneto, Spider-Man, Thanos, the Hulk, no power...) none none, but the vessels work for them
A player in Creative all six all but the Time Stone (unless a sorcerer)

Non-gods can't use the Reality, Power or Soul Stone at all. These three have no vessel. Only a Bearer, or one who wields a filled Gauntlet, ever uses them.

When a stone is too strong for you

  • On the ground a stone slips away from someone who may not hold it: a spark, a little hop, and "The Power Stone slips away from your hand."
  • In your inventory (from a chest, a crafting table, a friend's hand) it starts to burn: a red countdown on the screen, "The Power Stone burns! 7…", and a tick every second. After 10 seconds (three times faster in your hand) it zaps you for 2 damage (it never kills you), throws you back a little, and jumps out in front of you: "The Power Stone is too strong for you!"
  • Safe places: a chest, a barrel, a shulker box, the ender chest, the Gauntlet and the Orb hold stones safely, for anyone. A bundle in your inventory does not: the stone burns through it.
  • A Bearer may give a stone to anyone. Then it is their 10 seconds.

The vessels

The Scepter and the Tesseract

The vessels let other heroes, and players with no power, use three of the stones. They never burn anyone.

Vessel Stone Who can use it How
Loki's Scepter Mind Anyone Sneak + hold right-click, with nothing in your other hand: the Mind Beam. (Its other uses are as before: see Loki.)
The Tesseract Space Anyone Sneak + right-click: the Realm Picker. (Its plain use is as before.)
The Eye of Agamotto Time A sorcerer (Billy, Agatha, Loki, the Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange) Right-click: Slow Time; Sneak + right-click: Rewind. Held for 3 seconds by a player with no power, it makes him Doctor Strange. Anyone else: "The Eye stays closed. Only a sorcerer can open it."

Taking the stone out and putting it back (crafting table):

Craft Gives
Loki's Scepter alone the Mind Stone and an Empty Scepter (just a weapon now)
An Empty Scepter and the Mind Stone Loki's Scepter again
The Tesseract alone the Space Stone and an Empty Tesseract (a clear, hollow cube)
An Empty Tesseract and the Space Stone the Tesseract again
8 gold blocks round the Time Stone the Eye of Agamotto
The Eye of Agamotto alone the Time Stone (the gold is lost)

Someone has to hold the Time Stone to craft the Eye, so a god, the Scarlet Witch, the Phoenix or a sorcerer makes it, and can give it to a friend with no power. The Eye shares the Time Stone's cooldown: its sweep on the hotbar shows when it is ready again.

What each stone does

The Space Stone in the inventory

Every stone has its own cooldown, shared by its two uses, and costs a little hunger (with an empty food bar it does nothing). A hand held by Billy's Freeze, a body turned to stone, the Time Lock or Mjolnir's pin can't use a stone ("The stones will not answer while you are held"). A switch that is on (Slow Time) can always be turned off. Only one beam or drain at a time.

The Reality Stone (red)

  • Reality Bubbles (while you hold it bare, or it is the Gauntlet's chosen stone): arrows, tridents, bolts and other shots that fly at you within 4 blocks turn into bubbles, as round Thanos in Infinity War. Each bubble costs a little hunger. In a boss's arena at most two a second, and they cost more. (Thor's thrown Mjolnir and the Mad Titan's own weapons are too real to change.)
  • Transmute (use): the creature you look at (up to 20 blocks) turns to stone for 3 seconds. Bosses shake it off. Cooldown 12 seconds.
  • Illusion (Sneak + use): you turn invisible for 6 seconds, and a red copy of you walks away; the monsters chase it. Cooldown 20 seconds.

The Mind Stone (yellow)

  • Mind Beam (hold): Vision's yellow beam (up to 32 blocks), 4 damage twice a second, and it confuses what it hits. Up to 6 seconds, then 3 seconds of rest (1 second if you let go early).
  • Mind Command (Sneak + use): the creature you look at (up to 16 blocks) fights for you for 20 seconds: it follows you, attacks what you attack and what attacks you, and never turns on you; its eyes flash blue. A Hydra soldier becomes a traitor to Hydra. A player (with PvP on) is only dizzy, slow and weak for 6 seconds. Bosses, and minds that are too strong, resist: "This mind is too strong for the stone." Cooldown 30 seconds.

The Time Stone (green; sorcerers only)

  • Slow Time (use, on/off): "Time slows around you." Every creature within 12 blocks moves three times slower (bosses half as much); green rings turn round your wrist. Up to 10 seconds, then 10 seconds of rest. It stops when the stone leaves you.
  • Rewind (Sneak + use): you go back to where you were 5 seconds ago, with that health if it was higher, as Thanos's Rewind. Cooldown 30 seconds.
  • On a crop or a sapling (use while you look at it): it grows; Sneak on a crop: it grows back. On a baby animal: it grows up. Every half second.
  • A sorcerer held by a Hex's Runes can't use it: "The Hex Runes hold the Time Stone still."

The Power Stone (purple)

  • Purple Beam (hold): a thick purple beam (up to 32 blocks), 4 damage twice a second, and an explosion where it hits every half second (6 damage round it). It kicks back. After 3 seconds it overheats: "The Power Stone burns too hot! Let it cool." (7 seconds; 3 if you let go first). It breaks blocks only if the server turns on power_stone.terrainDamage and the game rule mobGriefing is on, and never in a protected place.
  • Power Bolt (Sneak + use): Thanos's violet blast (up to 28 blocks), 12 damage to the creature it hits and 6 round it. Cooldown 3.5 seconds.

The Space Stone (blue)

  • Portal Step (use): a blue portal, and you step to the block you look at (up to 64 blocks) or right behind the creature you look at. Cooldown 3 seconds.

  • Realm Picker (Sneak + use; also the Tesseract's Sneak + use): a screen of four windows. Click one, or press 1 to 4:

    • The Overworld: your bed or respawn anchor, else the world's spawn.
    • The Nether: where you are, divided by 8, on safe ground (from the End or Asgard, where you last were in the Nether).
    • The End: the main island, outside the exit portal.
    • Asgard: Heimdall's Observatory. The Space Stone is the one way into Asgard other than the Bifrost (a server can turn it off with space_stone.reachesAsgard).

You go alone, land with 2 seconds of Resistance, and the stone rests 30 seconds. A grey window says why it can't be chosen (you are there already, Asgard is closed...). Not in a boss's arena, on the Witches' Road, inside a Hex that holds you, or while you are pinned.

The Soul Stone (orange)

  • Soul Drain (hold): Thanos's orange chain to the creature you look at (up to 16 blocks): 6 damage a second, and you get half of it back as health (bosses lose half as much). 2 seconds of rest when it ends.
  • Soul Sight (Sneak + use): every living soul within 32 blocks glows through walls for 8 seconds. Cooldown 20 seconds.

The HUD

While you carry stones, little gems sit to the right of the hotbar, one per stone, each with its cooldown sweep. Lines under them show the Reality Stone's bubbles ("×3 bubbles"), Slow Time and the Soul Sight, and a heat bar for the two beams. The burning countdown is red.

The Infinity Gauntlet

There are two kinds of Infinity Gauntlet now:

  • Thanos's Gauntlet (the Titan's): the reward of the Thanos fight, and every Gauntlet from an older world. It is unchanged: hold it for 3 seconds with no power and you become Thanos. Its five glowing stones are the Titan's own; they can't be taken out ("These are the Titan's own stones.").
  • The Infinity Gauntlet, crafted: six empty sockets for real stones.

Crafting: gold blocks all round, a nether star in the middle and a netherite ingot at the top middle (G N G / G C G / G G G). A server can switch the recipe off (gauntlet.craftable).

Setting the stones:

  • In: in your inventory, pick up a stone and right-click it onto the Gauntlet (or the Gauntlet onto the stone), as with a bundle. Anyone may put a stone in: the Gauntlet holds it safely.
  • Out: right-click the Gauntlet in a slot with nothing on the cursor: the chosen stone comes out. Only someone who may hold that stone can take it out ("The stones will not leave the Gauntlet for you.").
  • The sockets light up on the item and on your hand, and everyone sees your Gauntlet on your arm.

Wielding it: holding a Gauntlet with stones in it in either hand works only for a Bearer, the hero Thanos and the Hulk (as a Hulk, not as Bruce Banner). Anyone else: "The Gauntlet is too heavy for your hand." (it doesn't burn).

Using it: right-click uses the chosen stone, and Sneak + right-click its second power, exactly as the bare stone. The Time Stone still answers only a sorcerer. The hero Thanos has his five stones on his keys as always; with the Mind Stone in a Gauntlet he also has its beam and its Command (the sixth stone he never had; a server can switch that off with gauntlet.mindForThanos).

The Stone Wheel (J)

  • Tap J: the next stone of the Gauntlet in your hand: "Stone: Space Stone".
  • Hold J: the Stone Wheel opens round the crosshair, with the Gauntlet's stones. Let go on one, or click it, to choose it.

J is also Spider-Man's Web Assist key; each answers only for its own player. You can change it in Options, Controls, Enhanced Powers ("Stone Wheel (Infinity Gauntlet)").

The Snap

With all six stones in a crafted Gauntlet, held by someone who may wield it:

  1. Sneak and hold right-click for 3 seconds. The fingers close and the six stones light one after the other. (A quick tap instead uses the chosen stone's Sneak power.)
  2. Snap! A white flash. Half of the hostile monsters within 64 blocks turn to dust: exactly half, rounded down. They drop nothing. "Snap! 5 turned to dust."
  3. Never players, pets, villagers, animals, named or tamed creatures, and never a boss or a boss's helpers.
  4. The cost: the Snap leaves its wielder at 2 health with Weakness II for 30 seconds. Thanos pays nothing; the Hulk's arm burns instead. In Creative it costs nothing.
  5. One Snap a day: the Gauntlet can snap again only after one Minecraft day (20 minutes). The HUD shows "Snap ready: Sneak + hold use", or "Snap again in 19:59".

Not in a boss's arena ("Not here."), on the Witches' Road, or in Asgard. Your first Snap gives the advancement Half of Everything.

How many stones: the ledger

The four stones found in places (Reality, Time, Power and Soul) are counted. A server chooses how (stones.uniqueness):

  • Once per player (PLAYER, the default): every player may take each of them once. Two brothers can each have a full set; a pedestal still shows its stone to the next player. Try a second time and: "You have already taken the Time Stone from a place like this."
  • Once per world (WORLD): one of each in the whole world. When someone has taken it, every other place is empty: the pedestal is bare, the chest holds a note, "The Time Stone is gone."
  • Unlimited (UNLIMITED): every place gives its stone every time (for Creative servers).

The Soul Stone has its own choice, soul_stone.onePer, with the same three answers. A Soul Stone earned by one who may not hold it bare (3.6.1) counts as his from the moment it appears on the pedestal by the pool: it is stamped with his name when it is taken, whoever takes it (he, or a Bearer for him). The Mind and Space Stones are not counted: they are as rare as Loki's Scepter and the Tesseract.

A lost stone comes back (stones.returnLost): a stone that falls into the void, is destroyed by /kill, or is lost with a sacrificed player's things can be taken again (in player mode by the one who lost it; in world mode its places fill again).

The stones in the Hero Creator

A custom hero may put a stone on a key: the six stone rows (stone.reality, stone.mind, stone.time, stone.power, stone.space, stone.soul). A stone row works only while your hero carries that stone and may use it (bare, in a Gauntlet he may wield, or in its vessel). See Heroes' Abilities.

The Mad Titan

The Thanos boss is unchanged: his stones are phases of his fight, not items, and he still gives Thanos's Gauntlet. But from his second stone on, he goes first for a fighter who carries a real stone: "You carry something that is mine."

Numbers you can change

Who may hold the stones (stones.customBearers, visionHoldsMind, sorcerersHoldTime), the burn (graceSeconds, handGraceFactor, rejectDamage), the ledger (uniqueness, returnLost), the Gauntlet and the Snap ([gauntlet]), and every number of every stone ([reality_stone], [mind_stone], [time_stone], [power_stone], [space_stone], and the Soul Stone's in [soul_stone]) are on Server Configuration.
