Professor X
Charles Xavier, the greatest telepath on Earth and the founder of the X-Men. He hears the thoughts of every player and creature around him, takes over a body and steers it, freezes minds, strikes with a mental blast, and finds every mind in the world with Cerebro. When he awakens he chooses which Charles he is: young (James McAvoy in First Class and Days of Future Past), who walks, or old (Patrick Stewart), the professor in his wheelchair. His powers are a pale, bright blue.

- Get Professor X's Wheelchair. Craft it (the recipe is below and on Items and Crafting), or find it in the Mutant School, in a chest in the Professor's study (always one).
- With no power, hold it and hold right-click for 3 seconds. A ring of blue-white motes closes round your head and Cerebro's hum rises. Let go early and nothing happens.
- At the end the chair is used up (not in Creative) and you awaken as Professor X ("Every mind is open to you"). A screen asks "Which Charles are you?": Young Charles (Days of Future Past: he walks, thanks to Hank's serum) or Professor X (sits in his wheelchair). Later keeps the young one for now. The H key (Change Look) changes it whenever you like.
A hero who already has a power is told "Your mind already holds a power" and keeps the chair.

The recipe appears in your recipe book when you pick up an Eye of Ender.

- A normal body: 20 health, no flight. His power is the mind.
- The old Professor X sits in his wheelchair all the time: a steel frame, black leather, two big spoked wheels with tyres that roll as he moves (and turn against each other when he turns on the spot), small casters and a footrest. He sits with his legs forward and his forearms on the armrests. The chair is not drawn while he swims, sleeps, glides with an elytra, rides or is a Spectator. It is part of him, not something to ride: there is nothing to dismount.
- The young Charles walks.
- Cerebro's helmet appears on his head while Cerebro searches.
Professor X is a telepath. A mind is open to him only if its owner is not a telepath at least as strong as he is:
| Who | To Professor X |
|---|---|
| Everyone without telepathy (players, creatures, Cyclops, Agatha, Vision...) | Open: he hears them, blasts them, freezes them and takes them over |
| Another Professor X | Closed (same strength): he is simply kept out |
| The Scarlet Witch, the Phoenix and Billy (stronger telepaths) | Closed, and if he tries to take over their body they throw him out: he takes 4 damage, is stunned for 3 seconds (dizzy, slowed, weakened) and pushed back, and Take Over a Body has to recharge |
| Anyone wearing Magneto's Helmet | Shut to telepathy: "Silence: this mind is shut to telepathy" |
| The Ender Dragon, the Wither, the Warden and the three bosses | Too vast: shut to telepathy |
| Loki's duplicates | "An illusion: there is no mind in it" |
Players are reached only where PvP lets him hurt them; with PvP off their minds are "not yours to touch".
| # | Key | Ability | How it works |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | R | Mental Blast | Two fingers to his temple, and a ripple of blue light runs to the creature or player he looks at (24 blocks, in sight): 6 damage that ignores armour, and they are dizzy (Nausea) for 5 seconds and slowed for 3. Players only with PvP on. Cooldown 2 seconds. |
| 2 | G (toggle) | Hear Thoughts | Every mind within 24 blocks glows through walls in his colour, whispers crowd his head, and the thoughts of the 16 nearest appear over their heads in italic words, coloured by mood: a hungry pig, a zombie hunting a villager (it names its prey), a hurt wolf, a miner, a player who is a hero... A closed mind gives "(a mind closed to you)". The words change every two seconds. |
| 3 | V | Take Over a Body (again: return) | He takes control of the creature or player he looks at (24 blocks, in sight). See below. |
| 4 | B | Freeze Minds | Everything with an open mind within 12 blocks, even behind walls, is held still for 5 seconds (Spellbound, as Billy's Freeze). Not his pets or his team, not closed minds, not creatures too big for a spell, not players when PvP is off. If nobody is held it costs nothing. Cooldown 30 seconds. |
| 5 | N | Cerebro | The helmet goes on and Cerebro searches: every player in his dimension within 256 blocks whose mind is not under Magneto's Helmet is found (telepaths too: Cerebro amplifies). For 10 seconds they are marked on his screen through the world, with a list of names, distances and arrows, and each one is told "Cerebro has found you". Cooldown 60 seconds. |
Press V while you look at a creature or player, and your mind goes into their body:
- Your camera moves to their eyes. Your mouse turns them, W A S D walk them (a flier or a swimmer goes up and down where you look), Space jumps, and a click makes them attack what you look at: a creeper lights its fuse, a skeleton or a pillager shoots, anything else strikes (a creature that cannot fight is told "has no way to fight"). The HUD shows whose mind you are in, the body's health, the seconds left and the key to come back.
- A creature is yours for up to 30 seconds. When it is freed it is confused for 2 seconds.
- A player can be taken only with PvP on, and only for 8 seconds: their keys and clicks stop working, their screen says "Professor X controls your body!", and they walk where you make them. Never a player in Creative, a Spectator or someone in a trial of the Witches' Road.
- Your own body stays where it was, in a trance (others see it). If it is hurt, you snap back at once.
- It ends when you press V again, when the time is up, when the body goes further than 48 blocks from yours or into another dimension, when either body dies or leaves, when its mind closes (a Magneto's Helmet put on), when PvP is turned off (for a player), or when you lose your power. Then Take Over a Body needs 15 seconds to recharge.
- Not possible: a body another mind already steers, a creature pinned by Mjolnir, a stranger's pet when PvP is off, an armour stand or an illusion, and every closed mind (see the table above). A stronger telepath throws you out.
Nobody stays stuck: every link is undone when the server stops, and a player who logs back in is always free.
Billy's The Noise uses the same thoughts: while it is on he sees the words over the heads of the minds around him, as Professor X does with Hear Thoughts (his glow and his 32 blocks are as before).
| Look | Id | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Young Charles (Days of Future Past) (default) | young |
James McAvoy's Charles, who walks. |
| Professor X (in his wheelchair) | old |
Patrick Stewart's professor, who sits in his wheelchair at all times. |
| Your own skin | own |
His powers in your own skin (he walks). |
Press H to switch. See Looks.
The Hydra soldiers of the outposts have open minds. Hear Thoughts gives them thoughts of their own ("My boots hurt.", "Who left the gate open?"). Take Over a Body steers a soldier: your click fires his rifle, and his friends shoot back at the traitor. Freeze Minds freezes them, and a frozen soldier can't raise the alarm.
Under every Mutant School is the X-Men lower lab, and on its lower level the great Cerebro: a sphere of light panels with a walkway to a platform and the Cerebro console. N everywhere else is the same Cerebro as above; at the console it is amplified:
- Stand within 4 blocks of the console and press N (or right-click the console). The helmet lifts off its stand onto your head, and the room hums.
- For 30 seconds Cerebro finds every player in every dimension, with no limit on how far (not one under Magneto's Helmet): "Cerebro amplified: 5 minds in every world". Each one is told "Cerebro has found you", and your list shows each far mind with its world ("Peter · The Nether").
- The room shows the minds as stars on the sphere, in the direction where each one is, in its hero's colour; the players of another world gather low on the sphere under its name. Everyone standing in the sphere sees them.
- The stone sites: the nearest Hydra outpost (the Mind Stone), Sanctum Sanctorum (Time) and Avengers Tower (Space) are diamonds on the sphere in the stone's colour, with their distance ("Time Stone 810m").
- It ends after 30 seconds, when you walk away, or when you right-click the console again. The cooldown is Cerebro's, 60 seconds.
Other telepaths may use the console too, by right-clicking it: the Scarlet Witch, the Phoenix (Jean did, in X2), Billy, a custom telepath. Anyone else: "Cerebro needs a telepath's mind." With Magneto's Helmet on: "The helmet blocks Cerebro." See The X-Men lower lab.
Both minds are open to him: he hears them, freezes them and takes over their bodies like anyone's. Deadpool's thoughts are silly ("Did I leave the oven on?", "Is somebody reading this?"), and so are Dogpool's ("Ball? BALL?"). Agatha, Nicky and Rio of Agatha's Cottage think about soup, brooms and tomatoes.
How long the wheelchair is held, the Mental Blast (range, damage, how long it dizzies, cooldown), how far he hears thoughts, Take Over a Body (reach, how far the body may go, how long for a creature and for a player, or never for players, cooldown, whether a hurt breaks it, and the backlash of a stronger telepath), Freeze Minds (radius, time, cooldown) and Cerebro (range, time, cooldown; since 3.7 the amplified Cerebro's time, whether it reaches every world and marks the stone sites, how near the console you must stand, and whether only telepaths may use it) are the professor_x.* options.
