Training: Manage App Users

What you'll learn: how to open a user's profile, assign a role, and switch the active role to see what that user sees. You need: Administrator access type in an application (UI label "Tenant"), and at least one role (see Training: Create a Role). Time: 10 minutes.

Before you start

A user's left menu and permissions come from their active role. Assigning a role doesn't change what the user sees until they (or you, for yourself) switch to it.

Steps

  1. Go to Left menu → Access Control → App Users. (Fallback: header Search → "Users".)
  2. Click a user's name to open their profile. The tabs are DETAILS (name, email, access type, Active switch), ROLES, ATTACHED POLICIES, ATTACHED POLICY GROUPS, and SETTING VALUES. User detail
  3. Open the ROLES tab and click +. In Create a new User Role, pick the Role (e.g. TRAINING Operator); check Default to make it the user's starting role. Create user role
  4. Click the orange +. Toast: "User Role created successfully." The role now lists on the user's ROLES tab. Role assigned
  5. To activate a role for yourself: click your role indicator in the left rail (it reads "No role active" until you pick one) to open Switch Roles. If a role you just assigned isn't listed yet, reload the page.
  6. Click the role card (e.g. TRAINING Operator). Switch roles

Check your work

After switching, the role's menu section appears in your left menu — for example a TRAINING OPERATOR section with the menu items defined in the role's Menu builder. The footer shows the active role.

Try it yourself

Open the user's SETTING VALUES tab to see per-user overrides of application settings. Then switch back: open Switch Roles again and pick your usual role.
