Budgets

Give a project a budget and Gubbins tracks spending against it, so you know where you stand and get a clear signal when a build is heading over.

Where to find it: on a project (Projects screen), when the module is enabled.

A project's budget, categories and recorded expenses

Setting a budget

Set a target amount for a project. As you record expenses against it, Gubbins compares spend to budget and shows the status — comfortably under, close, or over budget.

Recording expenses

Log what a project actually cost — parts, materials, anything you spent — and the running total updates. When spend crosses the budget, the project surfaces an over-budget status so it's obvious at a glance rather than a nasty surprise at the end.

💡 Tip Set the budget before you start buying. The point isn't to record history after the fact — it's to see, mid-build, when the next purchase would tip you over.

ℹ️ Note Budgets are per project. For spending trends across your whole inventory over time, see the spend analytics in Reports.
