Receipt & label OCR

Photograph a receipt or a product label and Gubbins can read the text and pre-fill a new item for you — price, date, model and serial — so you type less when adding things.

Where to find it: the OCR prefill option when creating an item, once it's turned on in Settings → Scanning & labels.

How it works

OCR (optical character recognition) reads the text out of a photo. Point it at a receipt or a label and Gubbins extracts what it can — a price, a purchase date, a model/part number, a serial — and drops them into a reviewable create-item draft.

• It only fills blank fields and never auto-saves — you always review and confirm before anything is written.
• It runs entirely on your device (a bundled text-recognition engine), so no photo is uploaded anywhere.

There are two accuracy tiers — Fast (smaller, quicker) and High accuracy (larger, better) — selectable in Settings.

💡 Tip OCR is best as a head start, not a source of truth — glance over the filled fields and fix anything it misread before saving. It's a time-saver, not autopilot.

⚠️ Heads-up OCR is opt-in and its engine is downloaded separately the first time you use it, to keep the app small and fast for people who don't need it. Turn it on under Settings → Scanning & labels.
