The handheld Area Contamination Scanner and placed Viral Scanners answer different questions.

Area scanner

Right-clicking scans nearby hidden surface contamination and airborne reservoirs, reports CLEAN/LOW/MEDIUM/HIGH/CRITICAL severity, and temporarily visualizes hazard positions. It deliberately does not identify the strain.

Entrance scanners

The full gate, open-left, open-right, and ceiling scanner inspect living entities every 10 ticks. A detectable infection emits redstone level 15, suitable for alarms, doors, lamps, or quarantine automation. Scanner Evasion suppresses this biomarker and lets the carrier pass.

Neither scanner cures, names, or fully analyses an infection.
