The first researcher to discover an uncatalogued strain is prompted to name it automatically; a command is not required to open the naming screen.

Identity

The catalogue links a stable strain fingerprint to its chosen public name. Samples and vaccines do not all expose the name: detailed culture evidence and complete medical records may show it, while ordinary Virus Samples, Live Culture tooltips, and vaccines remain intentionally limited.

Selection

The naming screen accepts manual input and offers a random-name selector. Validation prevents invalid empty names and server moderation commands can rename saved entries when a player chooses abusive text.

Persistence

Catalogue data is saved server-side and synchronized only where needed. Renaming changes the public label, not the strain fingerprint or treatment match.
