Frequently Asked Questions

Why does a sample hide most of its data?

That is intentional. Samples preserve biological data but do not replace the Microscope, medical records, Gene Imprints, or CRISPR research. BioForge is built around discovering a strain through connected machines.

Why did my matching vaccine fail?

An exact signature is necessary but not always sufficient. Quality, infection strength, cure resistance, vaccine-defense mutations, Cas/PAM compatibility, evidence quality, and the configured balance all influence the outcome.

Can I make a vaccine without an assay?

Yes. The missing assay limits confidence and achievable reliability. Test the produced vaccine against infected blood and scan the vaccinated-blood result in a calibrated Microscope before risking a valuable patient.

Why is the Research Tablet page locked?

Activate the tablet once, then obtain or craft the page's related item. The locked entry shows the recipe for the next unlock. Server operators can manage pages through the Research Tablet command tree when testing or repairing progression.

Does curing a player clean the room?

No. Active infection and environmental contamination are separate. Clean surfaces and airborne reservoirs with the appropriate equipment after treating the host.

Can air-borne infection pass through walls?

Room connectivity matters. Open paths join spaces; solid walls are not ignored. Reservoirs also decay over time and can be suppressed locally by an Air Vent.

Why did crafting preserve an infection?

Food, drinks, animal products, and compatible contaminated ingredients can carry a strain into their output. Ordinary crafting is not sterilization.

Is HazCure the strongest combat armour?

No. It is specialist biological PPE with deliberately restrained physical defence. Use it for exposure control, not as a replacement for end-game combat armour.

Is JEI required?

No, but it is strongly recommended. The Research Tablet also renders recipes and station information as progression unlocks.

Can a datapack add a brand-new item?

No. A datapack can define BioForge behavior and recipes using items that already exist. A new registered item, block, renderer, or executable mechanic requires a Java addon.

Can I translate an addon's definitions?

Yes, when the addon uses translation keys and ships a language resource. Built-in mutations and Cas/PAM display names still have a known raw-string localization limitation; see Localization and Translation.

Can Universal use every mutation?

The bundled Universal pathogen class is compatible with all 81 bundled mutations. An addon still controls the compatibility of its own definitions.

What should I report with a bug?

Include the exact BioForge build, Forge version, mod list, whether the problem occurs on a dedicated server, relevant configuration/datapacks, reproduction steps, latest.log, and the crash report if one exists. For visual bugs, include GUI scale and a screenshot.
