The "Log Viewer" shows the log files of AI Studio, read-only, with filters and a search. It helps when you look for the cause of a problem or report one. It doesn't use an AI model, so nothing leaves your device.

How to use it

Open "Assistants" → "Log Viewer", or "Information" → "Logbook" → "Open Log Viewer". Under "Select a log file", choose:

  • "Usage log": everything since AI Studio finished starting. The file is events.log in the data folder of AI Studio.
  • "Startup log": the start of AI Studio. The file is .AI Studio Events.log in your home folder; on Windows, its name has no leading dot.

Both files contain the events of the app and of its runtime. The path of the open file appears below the controls.

Controls

  • "Auto-refresh" reads the file again every 5 seconds. Without it, "Refresh" reads it once.
  • "Max lines": how many of the newest lines to load, 5,000 by default.
  • "Open in folder" opens the folder of the file in your file manager.
  • "Log level", "Logger", and "Source details" show only certain lines, for example, only errors and warnings.
  • "Show timestamps" shows or hides the time of each line.
  • "Find" searches for words and highlights them; a line matches if it contains any of them. With "Filter only", you see only the matching lines; without it, you see all lines with the matches highlighted.
  • "Clear" clears the search and the filters.

Tips

  • To report a problem, filter for the errors around the time it happened, and copy those lines: select them with the mouse; the line numbers aren't copied.
  • The search sees only what is shown. With the timestamps hidden, it doesn't search them.
  • Look through the lines before you share them. Logs can contain file paths and other details of your work.
