Assistant Visual Briefing
Deutsch: Assistent Visuelle Briefings
The "Visual Briefing Assistant" (beta) turns your source material into an interactive briefing for an audience you describe: one web page with text, key figures, tables, charts, timelines, and small simulations. It reads documents, spreadsheets, images, audio, and video. You can open the briefing in any browser and pass it on as a single file.
The assistant is a beta feature. In "Settings" → "App Options":
- Under "Preview feature visibility", choose "Also show features in beta: these are almost ready for release; expect some bugs".
- Under "Select preview features", choose "Visual Briefing Assistant: Turn source material into an interactive briefing".
Its tile then appears under "Business". See also What AI Studio Offers.
The assistant keeps your work as briefings. Each briefing has a name, its sources, its settings, and its versions. The list at the top of the page shows your briefings:
- "New briefing" creates a briefing.
- "Import" opens a briefing that someone exported. You can view and export it; to change it, add its sources and rebuild it.
- "Rename" and "Delete" act on the open briefing. Deleting removes the briefing with all of its versions and transcripts for good.
Every successful build adds a version. Earlier versions stay: switch between them with the arrows or under "Version". The next build starts from the version you selected.
AI Studio saves changes to a briefing at once, in the folder visualBriefings of its data folder. Backups of AI Studio include it; see Backup and Restore.
- Open "Assistants" → "Visual Briefing Assistant", and click "New briefing".
- Describe the briefing:
- "Briefing name": required.
- "Author (optional)".
- "Briefing scope, notes, or current change instruction (optional)": what the briefing should focus on, or what to change in the next version.
- "Protection level": "public", "internal", "private", "confidential", or "other", which lets you enter your own. The briefing shows it in its footer.
- Add the sources, with "Add file" or by dropping files:
- "Source material": documents, spreadsheets, images, audio, and video, as context for the briefing. Audio and video are transcribed first, which needs a transcription provider; see Voice Input.
- "Visual assets": PNG, JPEG, and WebP pictures that must appear in the briefing, such as a logo or a photo.
- Under "Briefing settings":
- Choose a "Provider" and, if you like, a profile.
- "Target language": the language of the briefing.
- Describe the audience: "Audience profile", for example, "Engineers" or "Public officials"; "Audience age group"; "Audience organizational level", from "Trainees" to "Board members"; and "Audience expertise", from "No expertise" to "Experts".
- "Show source references": lists the sources of each part of the briefing, with their file names.
- "Optimize large visual assets": scales pictures down to at most 2,560 pixels on their longest edge.
- Click "Create briefing".
A build runs in six stages: "Prepare sources", "Analyze material", "Plan briefing", "Curate content", "Design presentation", and "Compile and save". A new briefing takes four to eight requests to your provider. The files go to the model only once, in "Analyze material"; the later stages work with what it extracted.
You can leave the page while the build runs. "Stop build" stops it. When a stage fails or you stop the build, "Resume build" continues from that stage and reuses the stages already done. "Copy technical details" helps when you report a problem.
Once a briefing has a version, these buttons each create a new one:
| Button | Keeps | Changes |
|---|---|---|
| "Change design" | Structure, content, and pictures | The design; describe what you want in the scope field |
| "Update content" | Structure and design | The content, from the current sources and instructions |
| "Rebuild briefing" | Nothing | Everything may change |
| "Recompile briefing" | Everything | Nothing; it builds the version again with your current AI Studio version, without any request to the model |
If the updated content no longer fits the design, "Continue as rebuild" keeps the updated content and builds a new design for it, without asking the model for the content again.
AI Studio doesn't copy your sources. It links them by their location and shows them under "Linked sources", as "unchanged", "changed", "transcript outdated", or "unreachable". When you moved a file, "Relink" points the briefing to its new location. "Transcribe again" updates the transcript of a changed recording, and "Remove" removes a source from the briefing.
The open version appears as a preview, with buttons for the width of a desktop, a tablet, and a phone. "Export" saves it as an HTML file. The file contains everything, pictures included, and opens in any browser without an internet connection, so you can send it by e-mail or put it on a shared drive.
The footer of the briefing is always in English. It names AI Studio and the models that contributed, the date, the author, and the protection level.
The model never writes code for the page. It returns structured content, and AI Studio builds the page from its own building blocks. The page can't connect to the internet, and its links lead only to other places on the same page.
- A capable model. The model has to return long, strictly structured answers. All source material goes to it in one request, so choose a model with a large context window.
- Image input when you add pictures, as source material or as visual assets. Several pictures need a model that accepts several at once.
- A transcription provider for audio and video.
In "Assistant: Visual Briefing defaults", you choose what every new briefing starts with: target language, audience, source references, picture optimization, a minimum confidence, a provider, and a profile. Unlike in other assistants, these defaults always apply; there is no switch to preselect them.
- Source references reveal the file names of your sources. Check them before you share a briefing outside your organization, or switch the references off.
- Each build sends requests to your provider. Try "Change design" or "Update content" before a full rebuild.
- When you send a text from another assistant here, it starts a new briefing with the text as its instruction. You still need to add at least one source.
