Workspaces and Chat Search
Deutsch: Arbeitsbereiche und Chat-Suche
Workspaces keep your chats in order, for example, one workspace per project. Chats outside a workspace are disappearing chats: AI Studio deletes them after a while. The search finds chats by their name or content.
The chat page shows your workspaces in a list next to the chat, under "Your workspaces". It has two parts:
- "Workspaces": your workspaces with their chats, the most recently changed chat first.
- "Disappearing Chats": chats that belong to no workspace.
The buttons at the top of the list:
- "Hide your workspaces" and "Show your workspaces" fold the list away and back. You can also drag the border between list and chat.
- "Search your workspaces" opens the search.
- "Reload your workspaces" reads the list again from your computer.
- "Configure your workspaces" opens the settings of the workspaces.
- "Add workspace" creates a new workspace. Each workspace has "Add chat", "Rename", and "Delete". Deleting a workspace also deletes all its chats.
- Each chat in the list has "Move to workspace", "Copy chat", "Rename", and "Delete".
- Click a chat to open it. The open chat appears in bold.
A deleted chat can't be restored. A chat can move into a workspace, or from one workspace to another, but not back to the disappearing chats.
In the chat itself, you find the same functions in the toolbar, see Using the Chat. A chat template can also put its chats into a workspace of its own.
"Start temporary chat" starts a chat outside the workspaces. Its title reads "Disappearing Chat". AI Studio deletes such chats once they haven't changed for a while, by default after 90 days. To keep a chat, move it into a workspace.
"Configure your workspaces" opens "Your Workspaces Configuration":
- "Workspace behavior": "Store chats automatically", the default, saves a chat as soon as you send its first message. With "Store chats manually", you save with "Save chat", and AI Studio asks before you leave unsaved changes. "Disable workspaces" hides the workspace list.
- "Workspace maintenance": when AI Studio deletes disappearing chats, after 7 days up to one year, or never.
- "Workspace display behavior": whether the list appears as an overlay over the chat, as a sidebar you can hide, which is the default, or as a sidebar that is always visible.
You find these settings only on the chat page, not in "Settings".
- Click "Search your workspaces" at the top of the list.
- Type one or more words. AI Studio shows only the chats that contain all of them. Upper and lower case don't matter, and parts of words match, too.
- Switch on "Search chat contents" to also search the messages. Otherwise, AI Studio searches only the names of the chats.
The search covers your workspaces and your disappearing chats. It doesn't search the names of workspaces or the content of attached files. Click a result to open the chat. "Clear search" empties the field; "Hide search" closes it.
AI Studio keeps your chats in its data folder on your computer. The "Information" page shows where, under "Your Data Folders".
