Open "Settings" in the navigation bar. The page groups the settings into panels; click a panel to open it. AI Studio saves every change at once, so there is no Save button.

Some settings live elsewhere:

App Options

"Language and look"

  • "Language behavior": follow the language of your system, or choose a "Language" yourself.
  • "Color theme": follow your system, or always light or dark.
  • "Navigation bar behavior": whether the navigation bar expands, and whether it shows tooltips.
  • "Start page": the page AI Studio opens with, from the next start on.
  • "Enable spellchecking?": spellchecking in all input fields. Depending on your system, right-click a word for corrections.
  • "Save energy?": updates a streaming answer every three seconds instead of continuously.

"Messages and requests"

  • "Close messages about exported files automatically?": whether the message after an export closes by itself.
  • "Show details when suspicious content was removed?": see Privacy and Security.
  • "Request timeout": how long AI Studio waits for a provider, from 2 to 60 minutes; 60 by default.
  • "Share feature usage with operators of self-hosted servers?": see Privacy and Security.

"Updates"

  • "Check for updates": never, at every start, or every hour, day, or week; every hour by default.
  • "Update installation method": install updates yourself, or automatically.

Some installations update in other ways, for example, through Flatpak or your IT department. Then these settings are locked; see Updates.

"Defaults"

  • "Preselected provider": the provider for the whole app. A provider you choose in the options of an assistant takes precedence.
  • "Preselect one of your profiles?": the profile for the whole app.

"Voice input"

  • "Select a transcription provider", "Voice recording shortcut", and "Transcription audio quality"; see Voice Input.

"More"

  • "Add a notice to AI-generated content?": see Privacy and Security.
  • "Preview feature visibility" and "Select preview features": switch on features that are still in development; see Preview features.
  • "Show administration settings?": shows the tools for IT departments, such as exporting a provider as a configuration; see Enterprise IT.

Settings of your organization

Your organization may manage some settings for you. Such a setting shows a red lock and the tooltip "This feature is managed by your organization and has therefore been disabled." Providers, data sources, and tools of your organization show a building icon or a note in their row. Some settings are only defaults of your organization, which you can still change.

Where AI Studio keeps your settings

In the file settings.json, in the configuration folder of AI Studio:

  • Windows: %APPDATA%\com.github.mindwork-ai.ai-studio\
  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/com.github.mindwork-ai.ai-studio/
  • Linux: ~/.config/org.mindworkai.AIStudio/; with the Flatpak, ~/.var/app/org.mindworkai.AIStudio/config/org.mindworkai.AIStudio/

The "Information" page shows the folders on your device. Your API keys aren't in the file; they are in the secure storage of your system. To move your settings to another device, use a backup; see Backup and Restore.
