Plugins
Deutsch: Plugins verwalten
Plugins extend AI Studio. Open "Plugins" in the navigation bar to see, install, and manage them.
- Language plugins translate the user interface. AI Studio comes with English (US) and German; both are always on.
- Assistant plugins add assistants, which appear under "Installed Assistants" on the Assistants page. You create them with the Assistant Builder (beta), get them from colleagues, or your organization provides them. Some open a chat directly instead of a form.
- Configuration plugins set up providers, data sources, chat templates, profiles, and settings, and can lock settings. Usually your IT department provides them; see Enterprise IT. They are always on.
The page lists the plugins under "Enabled Plugins", "Disabled Plugins", and "Internal Plugins", each with its icon, name, version, and description. Depending on the plugin, its row offers:
- A switch to enable or disable it, for assistant and language plugins.
- "Plugin information": the details its authors state, such as the type, version, authors, support contact, and plugin ID.
- A button to open the website of the plugin or to send a mail to its authors.
- "Edit assistant plugin" and "Revise assistant plugin with AI", for assistant plugins on your device.
- "Share plugin archive" or, on Linux, "Export plugin archive": passes the plugin on as a file.
- A button to delete the plugin.
The internal plugins have no actions. Plugins of your organization show "Managed by your organization" in their information; you can't delete, share, or change them.
Click "Import" and choose a plugin archive (.mwplugin or .zip), or drop the archive on the page. AI Studio shows what you are about to install: its type, version, authors, source, and support contact, and for a configuration plugin, where it sends data. Click "Install plugin", or "Replace plugin" when you update an installed one.
Plugins contain code that runs in AI Studio. Install them only from sources you trust.
You can also put a plugin folder into the folder plugins in the data folder of AI Studio:
- Windows:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\com.github.mindwork-ai.ai-studio\data\plugins\ - macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/com.github.mindwork-ai.ai-studio/data/plugins/ - Linux:
~/.local/share/org.mindworkai.AIStudio/data/plugins/; with the Flatpak,~/.var/app/org.mindworkai.AIStudio/data/org.mindworkai.AIStudio/data/plugins/
AI Studio notices changes in this folder within a second, without a restart. A plugin that isn't valid doesn't appear; the reason is in the log, see Log Viewer.
An assistant plugin brings its own instructions for the AI and may use tools, so AI Studio checks it before you enable it, and again whenever its code changes. When you switch on such an assistant, "Assistant Audit" opens: "Start Security Check" lets a model review the plugin. The result is "Safe", "Concerning", or "Dangerous", with the findings. If the result reaches the required level, "Enable Assistant Plugin" switches the assistant on.
A badge in the row of the plugin, and on its tile, shows its state. Click it for the details, or to run the check again.
The check is set up in "Settings" → "Agent: Security Audit for external Assistants":
- "Require a security audit before activating external Assistants?": on by default.
- "Preselected provider": the model that runs the checks.
- "Minimum required audit level": "Concerning" by default.
- "Block activation below the minimum Audit-Level?": on by default. When off, AI Studio warns you but lets you enable the assistant.
- "Automatically audit new or updated plugins in the background?": off by default.
Assistants that your organization approved need no check; they show "Approved by your organization". Your organization may also require an assistant to stay enabled.
In "Settings" → "App Options", "Language behavior" decides:
- "Choose the language automatically, based on your system language": the default. A regional variant uses its main language, for example, Austrian German uses German. Without a matching plugin, AI Studio uses English (US).
- "Choose the language manually": then choose the "Language".
A language plugin of others must be enabled on the Plugins page. If it doesn't appear under "Language" right away, restart AI Studio. Texts the plugin lacks appear in English. To translate AI Studio into another language, see Localization.
