Deutsch: Folien-Assistent

The "Slide Assistant" turns texts and documents into slides. With a PowerPoint template, it plans every slide for one of the template's layouts and creates a PowerPoint file in its design. Without a template, you get an outline that you can copy or export.

How to use it

  1. Open "Assistants" → "Slide Assistant".
  2. Choose a provider first if you want to add pictures; see Pictures.
  3. Under "Content to derive slide from", give the content: a text under "Text content", documents under "Attach documents", or both. Attached documents are source material only: the model reads them but puts none of them on a slide. Audio and video files are transcribed first, which needs a transcription provider; see Voice Input.
  4. Optionally, add "Pictures for the slides" and a "Picture library"; see Pictures.
  5. Under "Details about the desired presentation":
    • "Presentation title": required.
    • "(Optional) Important Aspects": what the model should consider, for example, topics to stress, or whether to use emojis.
    • The extent: "Number of slides", "Maximum number of bullet points per slide" (up to 7), or "Time specification (minutes)". With 0, the model decides. The number of slides wins over the time; a time gives one slide per one and a half minutes. The number of slides is exact and includes the title slide.
    • "Target language".
    • "Occasion of the presentation", for example, "Lecture", "Workshop of one day", or "Report to management". The occasion shapes the structure: a lecture may close its chapters with a summary, and a report to management leads with the key messages.
    • The audience: "Audience profile", "Audience age group", "Audience organizational level", and "Audience expertise".
  6. Under "PowerPoint template", choose a template with "Choose File", or drop it on the field; see below.
  7. Click "Create Slides".

Planning the slides can take a few minutes. A message shows what the model is doing, for example, writing a certain slide. "Stop generation" stops it, and you can leave the assistant meanwhile.

The result

The outline of the presentation appears below the form: each slide with its heading, bullet points, tables, and the pictures it shows. Copy or export it, or send it to a chat or another assistant; see Assistants.

If the model couldn't make every slide fit its layout, for example, because a text runs long, the assistant says so. Check those slides before you present.

Your PowerPoint template

Choose a PowerPoint presentation or template (.pptx or .potx). OpenDocument presentations can't serve as a template yet. "Use no template" goes back to an outline.

With a template, "Create PowerPoint file" saves the slides as a .pptx file. It is a copy of your template with its slide masters, layouts, and theme, and new slides that fill the placeholders of their layouts. Logo, background, and footer come with the layout, each chapter becomes a section in PowerPoint, and the new slides have no speaker notes. You don't need PowerPoint for this, and LibreOffice Impress opens the file as well.

The model doesn't see what your layouts look like. It knows only their names from the slide master, where their placeholders sit, and how much text fits into them. Clear names such as "Chapter" or "Content with picture" help it choose well; in PowerPoint, you rename a layout in the slide master view. It uses only layouts with room for a subtitle, text, a picture, or a table, so layouts such as "Title Only" or "Blank" aren't used. Chart and media placeholders aren't supported.

Once a template is loaded, "Advanced Options" offers:

  • "Color variant": when your template offers its layouts in several colors, the color of the whole presentation.
  • "(Optional) Footer": shown on every slide whose layout has a footer, for example, your name, organization, and date.
  • "Keep empty picture placeholders": keeps a picture placeholder without a picture, so that you can insert a picture of your own later. PowerPoint shows such placeholders while you edit and hides them in the slide show.
  • "Layouts for kinds of slides": which layout the model uses for certain kinds of slides, such as the title slide, chapters, or a summary, grouped from "Structure and framing" to "Law". Choosing a layout for some kinds, such as the table of contents or "Any questions?", also adds such a slide.
  • "Slides of the template": when your file contains slides, what to do with each: "Leave out", "Keep unchanged", or "Let the LLM edit it".

The color variant, the footer, and the empty picture placeholders apply when you save, without planning again. Another template or other layouts need a new run. If the template file changed since the planning, the assistant asks you to create the slides again.

Pictures

  • "Pictures for the slides": PNG and JPEG pictures that the presentation must show, such as photos, diagrams, or screenshots. Each goes on exactly one slide with room for a picture. If your template has no layout with a picture placeholder, the pictures are left out. AI Studio accepts these pictures only while the selected model can read images, so choose the provider first.
  • "Picture library": a folder of pictures and icons, for example, the picture library of your organization, chosen with "Choose Directory". The model reads only the file names, never the pictures, and uses a picture where its name fits a slide. Clear names such as rocket-launch.jpg therefore help. Only PNG and JPEG files count, subfolders included; many icons come as SVG, which the assistant leaves out. A picture whose name, or the name of one of its folders, starts with icon is an icon: it may appear on several slides, other pictures on one slide at most. From a folder with more than 5,000 pictures, the model gets a random 5,000 for each run. "Use no picture library" removes the folder.

Tools and profiles

The tool selection is always shown in this assistant: the model can use the selected tools while it plans, for example, the web search; see Tools in the Chat. A profile can name your organization, which the model may use for the imprint.

Options

In "Assistant: Slide Assistant Options", "Preselect Slide Assistant options?" is on from the start. It lets every presentation start with your important aspects, language, audience, occasion, template, footer, maximum of bullet points, empty picture placeholders, layouts for kinds of slides, slides of the template, picture library, minimum confidence, provider, and profile. The title, the content, and the number of slides can't be preselected. "Default tools for this assistant" chooses the tools it starts with.

Your organization may preselect its template and picture library for you. If they can't be reached, for example, because a network drive is offline, the assistant says so and plans without them. For IT departments, see Assistants and Templates.
