Configuration Overview

Applies to Equivalent Legacy 1.1.0+ for Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge).

Equivalent Legacy stores its settings in four TOML files, all in config/equivalent_legacy/ of the game or server instance. server.toml is a NeoForge server config: it is shared by every world of that instance and a multiplayer server sends its values to the connected players.

The files are:

File Type Location
server.toml SERVER config/equivalent_legacy/server.toml
common.toml COMMON config/equivalent_legacy/common.toml
client.toml CLIENT config/equivalent_legacy/client.toml
mapping.toml SERVER config/equivalent_legacy/mapping.toml

server.toml holds everything that affects gameplay: the survival balance system ([balance]), cooldowns, difficulty, effects, items and misc. common.toml holds crafting and debug options, client.toml holds the tooltip and overlay preferences of each player, and mapping.toml controls how EMC values are calculated.

Modpack defaults. A modpack can ship its own defaults so that a fresh instance starts with them. Put a copy of the file you want to seed at defaultconfigs/equivalent_legacy/server.toml inside the instance. That copy is only read the first time a config file is generated.

Existing worlds keep their values. Updating the mod never rewrites a config file that already exists. New keys are added with their default value, but a default that changed between versions does not overwrite the value already stored in your file. If you are migrating an old server, review the file by hand, especially the classic keys listed in Classic Settings.

Turning the balance system off. Set balance.enabled = false in server.toml to restore the classic ProjectE behaviour. Every balance.* option is then ignored and the mod uses its legacy value instead, so you get the pre-balance gameplay exactly. The classic settings outside [balance] (difficulty, items, cooldowns, effects) are not affected and still apply.
