Mercurial Eye

Applies to Equivalent Legacy 1.1.0+ for Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge).

The Mercurial Eye is the most powerful building tool in the mod. It places, extends and transmutes blocks using EMC stored in a Klein Star.

How to get it: 2 obsidian, 4 bricks, 1 Red Matter and 1 diamond.

Setting it up (the tooltip does not tell you this):

  • Press C to open its GUI. It has two slots.
  • Put a Klein Star in the first slot. This is the fuel.
  • Put the block you want to place in the second slot.
  • Press G to change mode and V to change charge.

Modes

  • Creation: place one block on the face you are looking at.
  • Pillar: fill gaps in a 3x3 column.
  • Extension / Extension-Classic: fill gaps around the targeted block in a 3x3 area (Classic up to 9x9x1).
  • Transmutation / Transmutation-Classic: replace matching blocks in an area with your target block.

How it costs EMC: it takes the difference in value between the new block and the old one from the Klein Star. If the new block is cheaper, the difference is refunded to the star.

Hidden abilities

  • Every mode is limited to 32 blocks per operation in this version, so it is a precise builder rather than a terraformer.
  • It cannot replace blocks that have a block entity or that are indestructible.
  • Because it refunds the difference, turning expensive blocks into cheap ones is not a loss.
  • The GUI is the only way to load the star and target; there is no hint in the tooltip.

Server settings: the per-operation limit is balance.mercurialEye.maxArea (32 by default).
