LIMS Courier Report Printing
Once a lab report is approved at the main laboratory, collecting centre staff or couriers can print the report and hand it to the patient. The authorising signature is embedded in the report automatically — no re-approval is needed at the collecting centre. This article explains how to print and view reports from the courier interface.
- Log in to the LIMS at the collecting centre workstation (or on your mobile device).
- Go to Collecting Centre > Courier > Print Reports.
- Search for the patient by name, registration number, bill number, or mobile number.
- A list of approved reports for that patient appears.
- Click or tap Print next to the report you want to print.
- The report opens as a formatted PDF with the authorising microbiologist's or MLT's name and signature already included.
- Print it and hand it to the patient.
The system records that the report was printed at the collecting centre, updating the investigation status to Report Printed.
If the patient only needs to see the result on screen (for example, to confirm a value before travelling), or if a printer is not available:
- Go to Collecting Centre > Courier > View Reports.
- Search for the patient.
- Select the investigation to open the on-screen report view.
The view is read-only. The patient can also see this report via the link in their SMS or by logging into the patient portal.
After printing and giving the report to the patient, record the handover in the system:
- In the report list, click Mark as Handed Over next to the report.
- The system records the timestamp and your identity. Investigation status updates to Report Handed Over.
This step is optional but recommended — it completes the traceability chain from sample collection through to report delivery.
If you search for a patient and the report is not yet available (status is still Sample Accepted or Report Approved is not shown), the lab has not finished testing or approving the result.
- Ask the patient to wait or return later.
- Do not release any verbal results — only the approved printed report should be given to the patient.
- You can monitor the status: approved reports appear in the Print Reports screen as soon as the main lab approves them.
The report printed but the signature is missing. The signature is automatically added when the report format includes a signature field. If it is missing, the report format may not be configured with a signature block. Contact the lab administrator.
The report printed but the results look wrong. Do not give the report to the patient. Contact the lab immediately. An authorised user at the main lab may need to cancel the authorisation, correct the result, and re-approve.
The printer is not responding. Check the printer connection and paper. If unavailable, direct the patient to the patient portal (via their SMS link) to view and download their report.
