ForgeDomain

What Is the Forge Domain?

The Forge Domain is an item-buffing and Fire-damage Cleric subclass: Blessing of the Forge temporarily turns a mundane weapon or suit of armor into a magic item, Artisan's Blessing adds bonus Fire damage to your melee hits via Channel Divinity, and Soul of the Forge grants passive Fire resistance plus extra AC while armored.

Level 3 Features

Forge Domain Spells

Your Domain grants an expanding spell list that is always prepared and doesn't count against your limit. Spells are added at Cleric levels 3, 5, 7, and 9:

CLERIC LEVEL SPELLS ADDED
3 Grease, Searing Smite, Heat Metal, Magic Weapon
5 Elemental Weapon, Protection from Energy
7 Fire Shield, Wall of Fire
9 Flame Strike, Wall of Stone

10 spells total — a mix of battlefield control (Grease, Wall of Fire, Wall of Stone) and weapon/armor buffs (Searing Smite, Magic Weapon, Elemental Weapon, Fire Shield).

Blessing of the Forge

Once per Long Rest, as an Action, touch a nonmagical weapon or suit of armor within 1.5m (a dropped item, or one an ally is holding/wearing) to temporarily make it magical:

  • Weapon: grants a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls
  • Armor: grants a +1 bonus to AC while it's worn

The bonus lasts until the end of your next Long Rest or until you die. You can't use this feature again until you finish a Long Rest.

Artisan's Blessing

A Channel Divinity option, triggered automatically as a prompt whenever you land a melee hit (not a killing blow, not against an item): spend 1 Channel Divinity to deal an extra 5 + (2 × Cleric level) Fire damage on that hit.

Level 6 Features

Soul of the Forge

A fully passive pair of bonuses:

  • Resistance to Fire damage
  • +1 bonus to AC while wearing armor

Playstyle Summary

The Forge Domain is a melee-leaning buffer Cleric built around making your gear (and your allies') hit harder:

  1. Blessing of the Forge — before a fight (or mid-exploration), hand out a temporary +1 weapon or +1 armor to yourself or an ally, once per Long Rest
  2. Artisan's Blessing — every melee hit you land is a chance to spend Channel Divinity for a burst of scaling Fire damage
  3. Soul of the Forge — passive Fire resistance and a free +1 AC while armored, letting you stand in melee more comfortably
  4. Forge Domain Spells — Searing Smite, Magic Weapon, and Elemental Weapon reinforce the weapon-buff theme, while Grease, Fire Shield, Wall of Fire, and Wall of Stone add control and defense

The Forge Domain rewards staying in melee range and spending Channel Divinity on your own attacks rather than saving it for a defensive Reaction.
