Subclass Sorcerer Draconic Sorcery
The Draconic Sorcery is a Sorcerer subclass descended from a draconic bloodline. Draconic Resilience at Level 3 provides natural armor: base AC = 10 + Dexterity + Charisma, removing the need for Mage Armor. Elemental Affinity at Level 6 adds Charisma modifier to damage rolls of spells matching your dragon ancestor's damage type, and lets you spend 1 Sorcery Point to gain Resistance to that type. At Level 9, Summon Dragon joins the always-prepared list.
| LEVEL | FEATURE |
|---|---|
| 3 | Draconic Ancestry, Draconic Resilience, bonus spells |
| 5 | Bonus spells |
| 6 | Elemental Affinity |
| 9 | Bonus spell |
Draconic Ancestry Choose your dragon ancestor — Black, Blue, Brass, Bronze, Copper, Gold, Green, Red, Silver, or White — which sets the damage type Elemental Affinity keys off at Level 6.
Draconic Resilience While you aren't wearing armor, your base Armor Class equals 10 plus your Dexterity modifier plus your Charisma modifier.
Example: at 20 Dex (+5) and 20 Cha (+5), your unarmored AC is 20 — matching full plate with no armour and no Dexterity cap.
Bonus Spells At Sorcerer level 3, you always have Chromatic Orb, Command, and Dragon's Breath prepared, and they don't count against your number of prepared spells. At level 5, Fear and Fly are added the same way, and at level 9, Summon Dragon.
Elemental Affinity (Damage) When you cast a Sorcerer spell that deals damage of the type associated with your draconic ancestry, add your Charisma modifier to that damage.
Elemental Affinity (Resistance) Additionally, you can spend 1 Sorcery Point to gain Resistance to the damage type associated with your draconic ancestry for 1 hour.
The Draconic Sorcery is the natural armor + elemental amplifier Sorcerer subclass. Draconic Resilience eliminates the need for Mage Armour, freeing a prepared spell and scaling your Armour Class with both Dexterity and Charisma — the Sorcerer's primary ability. With 20 Charisma and 16 Dexterity, you have AC 18 without any armor, spell slots, or equipment.
Elemental Affinity at Level 6 adds Charisma modifier to all matching-damage spells. For a Fire dragon ancestor, every Fireball, Scorching Ray, and Fire Bolt gains +5 damage (at 20 Charisma) on top of normal dice. This applies to each instance of damage, so a Fireball hitting 5 creatures adds +5 to each creature's damage roll.
The Elemental Resistance option (1 Sorcery Point for 1 hour) is extremely cost-efficient: Fire Resistance for an entire hour costs one Sorcery Point, reducing the most common elemental damage type by half for a full dungeon wing.
Summon Dragon at Level 9 rounds the subclass out with a durable concentration summon that fights while you keep casting.
