ApocalypseDomain

What Is the Apocalypse Domain?

The Apocalypse Domain is an offense-focused Cleric subclass built on damage and debuffing — its spell list emphasizes damaging effects, and it has three separate target-marking tools (Visions of Annihilation, Doom Song, and All Will Be Dust) to make your attacks and follow-up spells land harder.

This is a full progression subclass with features at Levels 3, 5, 6, 7, and 9, and an expanded spell list focused on damaging and debilitating effects.

Class Features

Progression Overview

LEVEL FEATURE
3 Apocalypse Domain Spells, Visions of Annihilation, Doom Song
5 Apocalypse Domain Spells (expanded)
6 All Will Be Dust
7 Apocalypse Domain Spells (expanded)
9 Apocalypse Domain Spells (expanded)

Level 3 Features

Apocalypse Domain Spells

Your Domain grants an expanding spell list that is always prepared and doesn't count against your limit:

CLERIC LEVEL SPELLS ADDED
3 Darkness, Hellish Rebuke, Phantasmal Force, Thunderwave
5 Hunger of Hadar, Fear
7 Blight, Ice Storm
9 Cloudkill, Insect Plague

10 spells across darkness, terror, poison, ice, and plague themes. Cloudkill and Insect Plague are always prepared from Level 9.

Visions of Annihilation

A separate Bonus Action spell with its own resource pool — it does not cost Channel Divinity.

  • Resource: Charges equal to your Wisdom modifier, minimum 1 — 1 charge at base, plus 1 more at each of Wisdom 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24, for up to 7 total at 24 Wisdom. Charges refresh on a Long Rest.
  • Trigger: As a Bonus Action, spend one charge to target a creature you can see within 36 m. No saving throw.
  • Effect: Attack rolls against the marked target have Advantage until the start of your next turn.

This gives you a third target-marking tool at Level 3 alongside Doom Song, usable independently of your Channel Divinity uses (2 at Level 3, 3 from Level 6).

Doom Song

Your Channel Divinity option at Level 3. Doom Song doesn't lock anyone down directly — it marks a target and makes that target easier to land critical hits on.

  • Trigger: Spend Channel Divinity as a Bonus Action to mark one creature you can see within 36 m. No saving throw.
  • Effect: Attack rolls against the marked creature score a Critical Hit on a 19 or 20. The mark lasts 10 minutes (100 turns), so in practice it stays on the target for the rest of the fight.
  • Implementation note: The crit bonus is carried by a 30 m aura around the marked target, so an attacker has to be within 30 m of it to benefit — a non-issue at normal combat ranges.

Level 6 Features

All Will Be Dust

A second Channel Divinity option, gained at Level 6. This isn't a death-triggered passive — it's a debuff you cast directly.

  • Trigger: Spend Channel Divinity as a Bonus Action to target one creature you can see within 36 m. No saving throw.
  • Effect: The target has Disadvantage on saving throws against spells until the start of your next turn.

This stacks with your save-or-suffer Domain spells (Hunger of Hadar, Fear, Cloudkill, Insect Plague). Because it only costs a Bonus Action, mark the target and cast the spell in the same turn — the mark expires at the start of your next turn, so a delayed follow-up wastes it.

Playstyle Summary

The Apocalypse Domain is an offense-oriented Cleric built around three independent marking tools that set up its attacks and damage spells.

Your combat identity:

  1. Open with Visions of Annihilation (free of Channel Divinity, Wisdom modifier charges per Long Rest) — mark a target so every attack against it, from you or your party, rolls with Advantage for one turn. Use it on the turn your party is about to focus that target down, not preemptively
  2. Or open with Doom Song (Channel Divinity) — the longest-lasting mark of the three: attacks against that target crit on 19–20 for the rest of the fight, so put it on a priority target early
  3. Or open with All Will Be Dust (Channel Divinity, Level 6+) — mark a target so it has Disadvantage on saves against your spells, then cast the spell that same turn
  4. Blast with Domain spells — Hunger of Hadar at Level 5 creates a blinding damage zone, Fear at the same level scatters enemies
  5. At Level 9, marking with All Will Be Dust and dropping Cloudkill or Insect Plague on the same turn makes the opening save far more likely to fail
