Subclass Paladin Oath of Conquest
![]()
The Oath of Conquest is a Paladin subclass built around dominating the battlefield through fear. Conquering Presence at Level 3 lets you spend a Channel Oath use to frighten every enemy you choose in range. Guided Strike converts a Channel Oath use into a guaranteed hit. The Oath of Conquest Spells add battlefield-control options. Aura of Conquest at Level 7 punishes any frightened creature that lingers near you, stacking Disadvantage and recurring psychic damage on top of the Frightened condition's own effects.
| LEVEL | FEATURE |
|---|---|
| 3 | Tenets of Conquest, Oath of Conquest Spells, Conquering Presence, Guided Strike |
| 7 | Aura of Conquest |
Conquering Presence You can expend one use of your Channel Oath to exude a terrifying presence. Each creature you choose that you can see within 30 feet of you must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, a creature becomes Frightened of you for 1 minute. The frightened creature can repeat this saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Oath of Conquest Spells The following spells are always prepared and don't count against your prepared spell limit.
Level 3: Armor of Agathys, Command
Level 5: Hold Person, Spiritual Weapon
Level 9: Bestow Curse, Fear
Guided Strike You can expend one use of your Channel Oath to strike with supernatural accuracy. When you make an attack roll, you can gain a +10 bonus to the roll.
Aura of Conquest You constantly emanate a menacing aura while you're not incapacitated. The aura extends 10 feet from you in every direction, but not through total cover.
If a creature is frightened of you, it has Disadvantage on ability checks and attack rolls while in the aura, and it takes psychic damage equal to half your Paladin level if it starts its turn there.
The Oath of Conquest is the fear-based control Paladin. Its theme is battlefield domination — lock down enemies with the Frightened condition, then punish them for staying afraid near you.
Conquering Presence is a Channel Oath-fueled AoE fear effect with a 30-foot range and no limit on the number of targets, making it a strong opener against groups. Since the base Frightened condition already keeps affected creatures from approaching you, this buys space against melee-heavy encounters without spending a spell slot.
Guided Strike turns a spare Channel Oath use into a reliable +10 to hit, useful for landing a crucial attack against high-AC targets or finishing off a fleeing enemy instead of missing.
The Oath of Conquest Spells lean defensive and controlling: Armor of Agathys pairs well with the subclass's tanky front-line role, Command and Hold Person offer extra crowd control, Spiritual Weapon adds bonus-action damage, and Bestow Curse / Fear extend the theme of hindering and frightening enemies at higher levels.
Aura of Conquest turns every creature already frightened of you into an easy target the moment they enter your 10-foot radius: Disadvantage on their attack rolls and ability checks, plus psychic damage equal to half your Paladin level each time they start a turn there. Since Conquering Presence and Aura of Conquest both key off the Frightened condition, the two features combine into a loop — frighten a crowd, then let the aura grind them down turn after turn.
