HIBC Code 39

HIBC Code 39 is an implementation of the Code 39 barcode symbology with HIBC formatted data.

Uses:

  • Healthcare products and medical devices labelled to the Health Industry Bar Code (HIBC) standards, including the UDI of devices issued through HIBCC.
  • Single-field data in healthcare provider facilities, such as purchase orders, under the HIBC Provider Applications Standard; consider HIBC Data Matrix for multiple fields.

Data syntax: HIBC LIC/PAS.

Standards: ISO/IEC 16388, ANSI/AIM BC1 - USS Code 39, BS EN 800, MIL-STD-1189, ANSI/HIBC Provider Applications Standard, ANSI/HIBC Supplier Labelling Standard, ANSI/HIBC Positive Identification for Patient Safety, ANSI/HIBC Syntax Standard.

Data and Options

  • The data field input is provided as HIBC LIC or PAS data, without the leading +, and contains only digits, capital letters, space and -.$/+%.
  • The HIBC + character is prefixed automatically.
  • The mandatory HIBC check character is automatically appended to the input, unless validatecheck is given.
  • The validatecheck option takes the last character of the data to be the check character and refuses the data if it is wrong.
  • The data is checked against the HIBC data structures.
  • Deprecated. The dontlint option disables the data structure checks, allowing symbols to be generated for data that does not comply with the HIBC standards.
