Code 93i

Code 93i is a continuous, variable length barcode symbology that extends Code 93 with 53 symbol values, adding numeric and byte compaction, group shifts, ECIs, FNC1 and optional Reed-Solomon error correction over GF(53), while encoding data that suits Code 93 as an ordinary Code 93 symbol.

Data and Options

• The data field can hold any byte values 0 to 255, given as ordinals with the parse option, e.g. ^233.
• The encoder chooses a shortest encodation using the base Code 93 characters, shifts, group shifts, Numeric Mode and Byte Mode.
• Data that Code 93 can encode is encoded as a Code 93 symbol, with the Code 93 start and stop characters and check characters, unless 93i compaction gives a shorter symbol. Otherwise the symbol has the 93i stop character and check characters calculated modulo 53.
• The data never begins with a space, which would ask the reader to append the following symbol; a leading space is encoded in Byte Mode, and data consisting of a single space requires errorcorrection.
• The errorcorrection option adds six Reed-Solomon error correction characters in place of the check characters, with the 93i start character. The data may then occupy at most 44 symbol characters.
• The parsefnc option allows the following non-data characters to be specified:
  • ^FNC1: FNC1, which in first position signifies compliance with an application standard, and elsewhere is transmitted as GS.
  • ^FNC@: FNC1 in second position, followed by an AIM application indicator of one letter or two digits. See Input Processing.
  • ^ECInnnnnn: ECI indicator, for ECIs 000000 to 811799. ECIs are not available with FNC1 in first or second position.
• The data must not end with FNC1 or an ECI, as a final non-data character signals an associated data carrier.
