Barcid Reforms

Barcid Reforms

Who gets it: Carthage and Gades

The Libyans have undergone major transformations during the course of the wars with the Romans, or the Punic Wars as they are often known. Under the influence of these repeated military encounters, many of their techniques (and much of their equipment) started to be 'borrowed' from their Roman foe. The Libyans moved more towards the Roman way of fighting, and although nowhere near a manipular army, they definitely separated more from the Greek influence of their predecessors. During Hannibal's Italian campaign, most famously, many of his soldiers were re-equiped with Roman weapons looted from the battlefield.

The reform unit available for recruitment now reflects this development. Check the recruitment scroll to view its details.

How to get it

It fires when any one of these holds:

  • the conditions below are met
  • the faction is Gades (not Carthage) and it is turn 122 (240 BC) or later

At least 2 settlements that lie in Italy (41 regions) are held by Carthage (counted at the end of its turn).

At least 5 settlements that lie in Sicily (17 regions) are held by Carthage (counted at the end of its turn).

The game checks this at the end of every round.

What it unlocks

2 units can be recruited once it fires:

Unit Who can raise it
African Infantry Free Peoples
Carthaginian Lonchophoroi Free Peoples
