A New Man: Gaius Marius

A New Man: Gaius Marius

Who gets it: Rome, Roman Rebels (first civil war), Roman Rebels (second civil war) and The Roman Senate; once it fires it applies to all of them at once

In the long years of campaigning under him, the troops of Gaius Marius have become professional soldiers. This also means that all Roman foot soldiers have been armoured in a uniform way. Furthermore, they are now carrying their equipment themselves (hence the nickname muli mariani, Marius' mules), but fare more importantly, will serve for 16 years on average and receive a land allottment for their retirement afterwards. This will certainly bring about problems...

The troop types available for recruitment now reflect the structure of this new professional army. Check the recruitment scroll to view the details.
