Who gets it: Gortyn
Aristocrats: Hear us, citizens of Gortyn! Our lands are prospering, and you have brought home many valuable goods. But wars never end, and we need more of you to participate! To achieve that, we have decided to hand out cheaper – I mean better – shields for all of you! The thureos will make you as ferocious as the Galatians who fought the Greeks on the mainland, we are sure of it! Now go, do your duty!
Demos: You want even more of us to die, while you lie around and enjoy our loot? You will join us on the field or die right here on the spot!
Aristocrats, frightened: Of course we would like to help you in battle, but in contrast to you, we have no proper protection, besides what we wear on our bodies.
Demos: Then take our aspides you want to replace and learn to ride with them!
It fires when a settlement held by Gortyn lies in the Cretan recruitment area and it is a large city or larger.
The game checks this at the end of every round.
