What the game says at each level
Oblivious about Geography: Geography? Please. This man couldn’t tell you where the nearest river is if his life depended on it. If it’s not right under his nose, he’s not interested, and even then, he might just shrug and walk the other way.
Despises Geography: This man couldn't care less if the world was flat or round, or if the hill he is staring at in disgust was created through natural or human causes. Nor does he care how much of his population is over thirty, that is, until he wants to recruit them into his army...

This man holds the office of Pontifex Maximvs, "Great Bridge-Builder". He is the chief religious officer of the state, and most senior of all Rome's priests. His primary duty is to maintain the pax deorvm, or "peace of the Gods". Historically, the position was an invention of the early Republic, assuming the duties the King once held as "Rex Sacorvm, or King of all things Sacred. In a typically Roman solution, the new rulers of the Senate simply created a position that was superior to the Rex Sacorvm. He was called Pontifex Maximvs, and he was elected like any other office. He supervised all the various members of the priestly colleges, pontifices, augurs, fetials, and other minor priests, and was also responsible for the Vestal Virgins. His home was at the Domus Publicvs, a state-owned mansion, which he shared with the Vestals. His official headquarters, though, was the small temple of the Regia within the Forvm Romanvm.

Polla chaire, Olympionikes!\nThis man has brought great honor and fame to himself and his people. It is not a common occurrence to stand before the crowds at Olympia and be crowned with the wreath of olive leaves, but he has done it, and won a great victory in the Olympiad! He has followed in the footsteps of Theagenes, Diagoras, and even the great Milon, the most famous Olympic victor of all. After returning from his journey to Elis, there are plans underway to place a statue of Parian marble of him in the local agora. Let us hope that in four more years he will be able to try his strength again and duplicate his amazing feat!

What the game says at each level
Optimate Sympathiser: This man looks favourably on the old families and the authority of the Senate. He has said little on the matter in public, but in private he speaks approvingly of tradition, of restraint, and of the wisdom of one's elders and betters.
Optimate: This man is a "good man", one of the boni, who wants the stable and responsible Senate to retain or increase its power, at the expense of the unpredictable, selfish mob of the popular assemblies. Power should be kept in the hands of the best members of a society, not its lowest and basest. Those with the proper breeding, whose families possess generations of experience with rule, are best suited to govern, not upstart novi homines, plebeians, and provincials.

Once Augustus came to power, the right to a triumph ended for anyone other than the Emperor (due to the obvious reasons of creating a potential rival), and so a substitute was created - the general was awarded the regalia of the triumph (ornamenta triumphalia) but not the right to a triumphal procession. The honours include the right to wear triumphal dress in public: the corona triumphalis (a gold coronet fashioned in the shape of a laurel-wreath with dangling gold ribbons); an ivory baton; the tunica palmata (a tunic embroidered with palm-leaves); and the toga picta ("painted toga"), a toga which is dyed entirely purple with embroidered gold border, a robe believed to have been the official dress of the Roman kings.

This man is both well situated among the aristocracy of the city, and also supported by the people as the second most popular man in Carthage. While power is still primarily held by the old aristocratic families of Carthage, influence in politics is also determined by an individuals ability to gain the favour of the Popular Assembly, who can appoint generals through popular demand, and whose support allows a politician to enforce amendments that might be unpopular among the Punic senate. Often there is more than one man who stands at the height of power in the city, and if they oppose each other in politics, it can be devastating for the city.

What the game says at each level
Ovation: This man entered Rome on horseback, wearing the purple-bordered toga praetexta of a magistrate. Upon his brow sat a wreath of myrtle, sacred to Venus, its dark green leaves shining in the sunlight. The general rode alone through the streets, acknowledging the cheering crowds who paved the way with flowers and praises, showing genuine appreciation for the victory. No senators preceded him, nor did soldiers follow in his path. Ascending the Capitoline hill, the general reached the Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus and offered the traditional sacrifices. As incense smoke rose toward the heavens, the ceremony concluded with praises to the gods who had granted Rome this worthy victory.
Two Ovations: For the second time, this man entered Rome on horseback, wearing the purple-bordered toga praetexta of a magistrate. Upon his brow sat a wreath of myrtle, sacred to Venus, its dark green leaves shining in the sunlight. The general rode alone through the streets, acknowledging the cheering crowds who paved the way with flowers and praises, while children ran alongside, their faces bright with excitement.
Granted Three Ovations: For the third time in his life, this man entered Rome on horseback, wearing the purple-bordered toga praetexta of a magistrate. Upon his brow sat a wreath of myrtle, sacred to Venus, its dark green leaves shining in the sunlight. The general rode alone through the streets, acknowledging the cheering crowds who paved the way with flowers and praises, while children ran alongside, their faces bright with excitement. No senators preceded him, nor did soldiers follow in his path. Ascending the Capitoline hill, the general reached the Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus and offered the traditional sacrifices. As incense smoke rose toward the heavens, the ceremony concluded once again with praises to the gods who had granted Rome another great victory.

This general charges into battle with the enthusiasm of a man who thinks he's invincible. Like a certain Seleucid Basileus who thought it wise to personally charge the Roman lines at Magnesia, he has a habit of leading from the front... and occasionally failing to support his troops in the process. His soldiers admire his courage, but secretly wish he would think things through, just once.

Spartan shields are now hanging in the halls of Knossos, and the march of disciplined men can be heard from the hills of Gortyna. Overworked Barracks: The barracks and military infrastructure of the settlement struggle to accommodate the large number of troops, leading to overcrowding and declining conditions.
