CrochetCaps
"No two alike, dear. Just like a good KnitWitch."
-- Noria NeedleNest, High KnitWitch of the ClothBorn Coven
CrochetCaps are small white mushrooms whose caps are made of delicate, lacy crochet, like the doilies on a grandmother's table. They grow on the dark floors of The Forgotten Forests, beneath the LoreLarches.
| Core Thread | Memory |
| Found | The Forgotten Forests, in the moss beneath the LoreLarches |
| Known for | Lace patterns that are never repeated |
Each CrochetCap is a tiny disc of open, lacy work: rings of chain stitches, little picot points around the edge, and a pattern of holes that lets the light through. In moonlight, a patch of them throws lace-patterned shadows across the forest floor.
No two CrochetCaps have ever been found with the same pattern. The KnitWitches, who will never knit the same thing twice, are very fond of them, and many a new KnitWitch stitch began as a pattern copied from a CrochetCap by moonlight. Copying is allowed. Picking is not. The KnitWitches sketch them where they grow and leave them be.
Near the Void, a CrochetCap's stitches start to come undone, one loop at a time, until only a plain white button is left. A KnitWitch who sits beside it and crochets the pattern back into her own work is said to help it remember how it went.
