ParchmentPines
ParchmentPines are the wandering trees of The Mythical Meadows. A grove that stood to the north yesterday may stand to the east today, and to the south tomorrow.

ParchmentPines are tall and pale, and their bark peels away in thin, cream-coloured sheets of parchment. Now and then a sheet comes away with a word or two already written on it, though no one has ever seen who wrote them.
ParchmentPines shed their bark in sheets, and Threadlings gather it. The sheets come away cleanly as the trees grow, curling at the edges like the pages of a well-read book, and pile up softly around the roots. Gatherers come from all over Threadbare to collect them, and a good sheet of ParchmentPine bark is prized for letters, journals, maps and stories, because ink takes to it beautifully and it never quite forgets what was written on it.
The gatherers have only one rule: take what the tree has let fall. No one ever peels a sheet from a living ParchmentPine. The bark it gives up freely is the only parchment worth writing on.
Gathering is not easy, because the groves will not stay put. Gatherers often set out in the morning for a grove that stood to the north, only to find it has wandered off to the east by lunchtime. The best gatherers say the trick is to stop looking for the grove, and start listening for the soft rustle of parchment falling.
Like everything in the Mythical Meadows, the ParchmentPines do not stay still. Willomena WanderWeave's survey of the Meadows records the same grove in several places at once, and leaves it to the reader to decide which entry is wrong.
