PinCushion Prickles
"Take only the pins it gives."
-- A caravan saying of the SunSpun Sands
PinCushion Prickles are the cacti of The SunSpun Sands: plump, round and stitched in deep green velvet, with spines of glass-headed pins. They give the only shade for miles, and caravans plan their routes from one Prickle to the next.

| Known for | Their glass-headed pins, and the shade they give |
A PinCushion Prickle has a seam running down each side like a well-loved pincushion. Its spines are pins, each with a bright round head of coloured glass, spun from the same sun-hot sand that makes the Glass Coast glitter. A Prickle catching the midday sun throws little spots of coloured light all around it. Once a year, each Prickle blooms with a single bright tassel at its crown, and a caravan that passes a line of tasselled Prickles is said to be in for a good journey.
Prickles store water deep in their stuffing. Small desert creatures nest in the cool between their roots, and travellers rest in their shade through the heat of the day.
Every so often a Prickle sheds its oldest pins into the sand. Travellers gather them as keepsakes, and costume-makers from the Performance Playa pay well for them. No one ever pulls a pin from a living Prickle. The pins it gives away freely are the only ones worth having.
A Prickle is hardy, and holds on longer than almost anything else in the Sands. When the Void does reach one, the glass heads of its pins turn clouded and grey, one by one, from the bottom up.
