Clip Extractor Installation

Installation

What you need

  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
  • ffmpeg and ffprobe on your PATH. The app uses them to read videos and for every export.
  • An NVIDIA GPU with current drivers for NVENC (re-encoded) exports. Lossless cuts and frame PNGs work without one.

Option 1: the zip (recommended)

No Python needed.

  1. Download RulZ-Simple-Video-Clip-Extractor-v*-win64.zip from the latest release.
  2. Unzip it anywhere.
  3. Run RulZ Clip Extractor.exe. Keep the _internal folder next to it; the app needs it.

You can also drag a video file onto the .exe, or onto the app window.

Windows SmartScreen: the exe is not code-signed, so Windows may warn you the first time. Click More info, then Run anyway.

Install ffmpeg

Open a terminal and run:

winget install Gyan.FFmpeg

Then open a new terminal or log out and back in so the PATH change takes effect. Check it worked:

ffmpeg -version
ffprobe -version

If the app starts and shows an "ffmpeg not found" warning, ffmpeg is not on the PATH yet.

Option 2: run from source

Needs Python 3.10 or newer on your PATH. See Building from Source.

Updating

Download the new zip and unzip it over (or next to) the old one. Your preferences are stored in the Windows registry, not in the app folder, so they carry over. See Preferences and Themes.
