Coding Agent Notes and Instructions
There are two places to tell the agent things you want it to remember.
Notes in the top bar opens Things to always remember for the open project, for example "use blue, not purple" or "the app must work offline". Notes go with every request, so they survive long conversations and summaries.
Settings → Instructions for every project adds your own instructions to the agent's system prompt in all projects, for example "Always use big, easy-to-read text" or "Prefer Python apps over websites".
Show my built-in instructions displays the fixed part they're added to. That part holds the tool and safety rules, so it can't be replaced.
Both are limited to 4000 characters, because they're sent with every request.
- built-in instructions (the safety rules come first)
- your Settings instructions
- the project's Notes
- a summary of earlier work, when the conversation has been summarised
