Clip Extractor Playback and Marks
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Left / Right | One frame back / forward |
| Shift+Left / Shift+Right | Previous / next keyframe |
| Home / End | First / last frame |
| Space | Play / pause |
| Click or drag the timeline | Scrub |
The readout shows the time, the frame number, and a red ● keyframe tag whenever the current frame is a keyframe. Light ticks on the timeline are the keyframes.
Stepping is frame-accurate. Stepping backwards re-decodes from the previous keyframe, which is fast for normal videos but can take a moment on footage with very long gaps between keyframes.
Playback has sound. The speaker button mutes (M) and the slider sets the volume; both are remembered. During playback the audio is the master clock and the picture follows it, so they stay in sync. Videos with no audio track play against a normal clock. Stepping and scrubbing are silent.
- Mark In (I) is the first frame of the clip.
- Mark Out (O) is exclusive: the clip ends just before the Out frame.
- Pressing O on the very last frame includes it (Out becomes the end of the video).
- Clear removes both marks.
The In and Out labels say ● K when a mark sits on a keyframe. When both marks are on keyframes (or at the very start or end of the file) the clip can be exported losslessly. See Exporting.
The marked range is shaded dark red on the timeline, with a white IN marker and a red OUT marker.
Exclusive Out is deliberate. A keyframe starts a new group of pictures, so ending a clip before it gives a clean lossless cut with no leftover frames.
Press S (or the Save frame PNG button). The current frame is written at full resolution straight to your output folder, with no dialog. The name is <video>_<timecode>_f<frame>.png, and an existing name gets _1, _2... rather than being overwritten. The status bar shows where it went.
Rotation, flip, crop and colour matching are all applied to the PNG, so it matches what you see.
- Ctrl+O or drag-and-drop opens a video.
- File > Close video (Ctrl+W) unloads it and clears marks, crop, selection, rotation and flip.
- File > Open last export (Ctrl+Shift+O) closes the current video and opens the most recent file you exported. It is remembered between runs.
- Fixed-Length Clips for picking a clip by duration instead of two marks
