draw label
< Previous: Dimension: Radial | Next: Construct >
A box of text on the canvas, typed in place and wrapped to the box you drew.
Menu: Draw > Label | In depth: The Layers panel
Click two opposite corners for the label's border, or drag the box out in one gesture. The cursor lands inside it ready to type, and the text wraps to the width you gave it.
A label needs a box with both width and height. Two corners in a line leave the text nothing to wrap into, and Locus declines rather than making a box with no inside.
Undo takes the label back in one step, along with any corner point it had to make for you. A corner you snapped onto something that was already there stays where it was. A box that gets declined leaves nothing behind either.
A label is held by its two corner points, the same way a rectangle is. Drag a corner and the box changes shape, and the text re-wraps to fit. Put those corners on a construction and the label follows the construction.
That also means a label behaves like the rest of your geometry: it appears in the Layers panel, it can be hidden, locked, grouped, moved and styled, and its corner points can be snapped and constrained like any others.
Double-click a label to put the cursor back in it and edit the text in place.
Type size is in millimeters, like everything else on the canvas, so a label keeps its size against the drawing rather than against the zoom. Size and the text style, the font, bold, italic, underline, strike, and the horizontal and vertical alignment inside the box, are all set from the Layers panel.
A label is a modeling object: you place it, you type into it, it stays where you put it. The Text node is the node-side counterpart, for text a graph produces.
