Select Every Nth node icon   Select Every Nth (node)

Keep every Nth item and reject the rest - Every sets the step, Offset the phase. Both outputs are live.

A list of eight items indexed 0 to 7. With Every 2 and Offset 0, the Selected output holds items 0, 2, 4, 6 (shown in blue) and the Unselected output holds items 1, 3, 5, 7 (shown ghosted) - the two outputs partition the list by position, and neither is lost.

Two side-by-side 6 by 6 grids of 36 items, indexed 0 to 35 in reading order. With Every 4, the left grid highlights the Selected items (0, 4, 8, 12, ..., 32) in blue; the right grid highlights their exact complement, the Unselected items, in neutral. Ghosted cells in each grid show what that output drops.

Routes each item to Selected or Unselected by its position in the list. Every sets the step - Every 2 keeps every other item, Every 3 keeps one in three. Offset shifts the phase, so the pattern can start on a different item; it wraps, so a negative Offset still lands in range. Because Unselected is a live output too, you can style the dropped items differently instead of losing them.

Every and Offset are inline-editable on the node face - double-click and type, no wiring needed.

Inputs

  • Geometry (any): the list of items to filter by position.
  • Every (number, editable: default 2)
  • Offset (number, editable: default 0)

Outputs

  • Selected (any): the items at every Nth position.
  • Unselected (any): the items in between.

What it is for

The point is usually two treatments rather than one selection. Feed Selected and Unselected into different Style nodes and a plain grid becomes a checkerboard, or every third tile picks up an accent, without you drawing two patterns.

Offset is how you line that up: same step, different phase, so two of these on the same list can divide it between them.
