Ellipse node icon   Ellipse (node)

A filled ellipse from a center and two axis points.

An ellipse from three numbered points with dashed axes, filled in region orange, with a legend naming the sockets Center, Major Axis and Minor Axis.

A center plus a point on the long axis and a point on the short axis define the ellipse - the two axis points give its two radii, and the direction of the major-axis point sets the tilt, so an ellipse can lean at any angle. It pairs the three point lists index-for-index, one ellipse per triple. For an open piece of an ellipse rather than the whole closed shape, use Elliptical Arc.

Inputs

  • Center (point): the center of the ellipse.
  • Major Axis (point): a point on the long axis; its distance from the center is the major radius, and its direction sets the tilt.
  • Minor Axis (point): a point on the short axis; its distance from the center is the minor radius.

Outputs

  • Geometry (region): one ellipse per triple of points.

What it is for

A circle that has been stretched one way, which makes it the shape for anything that needs to be wider than it is tall, or to lean.

All three inputs are points, so an ellipse can be pinned to a construction and will stretch and lean as that construction moves. Put the major axis point where you want the long direction to run and the tilt comes with it.
