node divide
< Previous: Midpoint | Next: Point on Curve >
The n-1 points that split each A->B span into n equal pieces (Parts is editable; pairs lists index-for-index). Also works on an arc or circle wired into Segment.
Category: Construct | Add menu: Construct > Divide
- Segment (curve): a segment, arc, or circle whose span gets divided; wire this or the two points below. A wired segment/arc/circle takes priority over Point A / Point B, and every straight segment, arc, and circle wired in gets divided. An open arc drops its n-1 interior points, same as a straight span; a full circle has no endpoints, so it gets all n points, evenly spaced from its start angle going counterclockwise. A circle's ring of points can be turned: on a center-and-point circle it starts at the radius point and follows it, and on any other circle you can drag a division to rotate the whole ring. Two Divide nodes on one circle give two rings that turn independently.
- Point A (point) / Point B (point): the span endpoints, used when no segment is wired. Point lists pair index-for-index; a lone point on one side is shared with every point on the other.
- Parts (any): how many equal pieces to split each span into (editable, default 4 -> 3 interior points). Takes a number or a value field.
- Points (point): a list of points, not a single one: the n-1 interior division points for each span, flattened into one flat list (all spans in order). Divide a segment into 5 parts and you get a list of 4 points. To pull out one specific point - the first split, or the middle - wire this into an Item at Index node and set its Index (0-based: 0 is the point nearest A, counting toward B). Everything downstream that accepts a point list (Place, Polygon via Collect, and so on) can take the whole list at once.
Splits a span into equal pieces and hands back the points where the splits fall. Wire a segment, arc or circle, or give it two points, and set Parts.
The output is always a list, even when there is one span, so reach for Item at Index to pull out a single point and Collect to gather several spans. A straight span and an open arc give n-1 interior points; a closed circle has no ends, so it gives all n.
