An equilateral triangular lattice of points. (Shown as Tri Grid on the canvas.)
Category: Primitives | Add menu: Primitives > Tri Grid
Like Rectangular Grid, but with a single spacing: each row is staggered by half a step and set at the equilateral height, so every cell is an equilateral triangle. Like Grid it has two outputs: Points, the bare lattice, and Segments, the mesh edges in all three directions.
- Count X (number): points per row.
- Count Y (number): number of rows.
- Spacing (number): the single step, in mm; both the horizontal pitch and (via the equilateral height) the row spacing derive from it.
- Lattice V1 (any): optional. Aims and anchors the lattice, and the row stagger rides along with it.
- Spacing Override (boolean): take the step from V1's own length instead of the Spacing number. Off by default.
- Segments (curve): the mesh edges, all three directions.
- Points (point): the bare triangular lattice.
Wire a vector into Lattice V1 and the lattice moves onto it: the first point lands on the vector's start and the first axis runs along the vector. The half-step stagger and the equilateral row height ride along with it, so the mesh stays equilateral however the vector is turned. Unwired, the lattice sits axis-aligned on the origin.
There is only one lattice vector here, because there is only one spacing: the equilateral cell fixes the second direction. With Spacing Override on, that single step comes from V1's length, and a vector with no usable length leaves the Spacing number standing.
Lattice V1 reads a segment (a to b), a ray (direction only), or two points (first to second).
Note
Counts are rounded to whole numbers and floored at 1, and the total is capped at 250,000 sites.

- Oblique Grid: two arbitrary directions, for parallelogram, rhombic and hexagonal cells.
