   Duplicate in Place (command)

The same independent copy, laid exactly over the original.

An L-shape and its copy laid exactly on top, the original showing as a thin edge behind it.

Menu: Edit > Duplicate in Place | In depth: Duplicate, detach & ownership

Duplicate in Place does what Duplicate does and puts the copy nowhere. There is no offset: the new objects land precisely on top of the ones they came from.

That is what you want when the position is already right and it is something else about the copy you are going to change, or when you mean to move it somewhere exact rather than drag it off a pile.

The copy arrives selected, so whatever you do next lands on it and not on the original underneath.

Shortcut: Shift-Cmd-D, or Shift-Ctrl-D on Windows.
