The one point, out of a set, that lies closest to a target location.

Inputs

  • Points (point): a set of points to choose from.
  • X (number, editable) / Y (number, editable): the target location.

Outputs

  • Point (point): the single point in the set nearest (X, Y). Empty if the set is empty.

What it's for

When several points come out of one node, Nearest Point picks the one you actually mean by pointing at where it should be. Its main use is disambiguating a crossing: Intersection Points returns every place two objects cross, and a target location singles out the one crossing you want - the same way the modeling view remembers which crossing an intersection picked.

Related

  • Intersection Points: the usual source of the set.
  • Convert to Nodes uses it to reproduce a construction's chosen crossing: the target is the seed the original stored, so the rebuilt point lands on the same intersection.
